Smalland Bosses Guide: Locations, Loot, & How to Defeat Them

Posted on by justin
Like other survival titles, defeating the bosses in Smalland allows players to progress through the game. But these enemies are no laughing matter and can obliterate Smallfolk Vanguards who dare challenge them unprepared. So, continue reading to prepare yourself for the game’s toughest battles.

Smalland Bosses Guide

Smalland Bosses Although challenging the bosses in Smalland is not an easy feat, it can be less of a hurdle with the right preparation.

Wasp Queen

Smalland Wasp Queen Although not a major enemy in Smalland, the Wasp Queen is technically a mini-boss encounter. It’s a buffed version of the game’s standard wasp. So if you fought a wasp in the game before, you’ll know what to expect when fighting the Wasp Queen.

Location

You can find the Wasp Queen in the northernmost area of the Oak Forest biome. Search for a bee and wasp-infested abandoned picnic area. Here, go underneath the picnic table to find the Wasp Queen.

Fight Tips

As mentioned earlier, the Wasp Queen has the same attack pattern as the normal wasp. That means it only has one attack pattern, wherein it tries to sting you with its stinger. However, the damage received from the Wasp Queen is higher than its drones. If you can block or evade the Wasp Queen’s stinger attack, it has a slight delay before repeating the same attack pattern. Take this opportunity to attack it as much as you can. Tip: Practice killing normal wasps before this fight to get the gist of their behavior. Alternatively, take the time to explore the world of the Smallfolk before taking on this fight, especially if you’re a beginner. Remember, there’s no shame in fleeing to return another day (with better gear).

Loot

  • Bug’s Lymph
  • Chitin
  • Insect Egg
  • Insect Fur
  • Insect Sting
  • Poison Gland
  • Wasp Queen Head

Rhino Beetle

Smalland Rhino Beetle The Rhine Beetle is the first boss in the game that players must beat to progress. Like other bosses, this large, horned insect has no weakness to any type of weapon. However, it’s resistance to piercing damage, so don’t use weapons like a spear in this fight.

Location

This boss’ home is on the Beach biome, particularly in that area’s easternmost region. You’ll find it under a tipped boat.

Fight Tips

Unlike the Wasp Queen, the Rhino Beetle has two attacks to watch out for:
  • A long-range charge, and
  • A quick short-range charge
You’ll know the distinction between these two charges by looking at the boss’ horns. The Rhino Beetle will do a short-range charge if it closes its two horns before attempting the move. Otherwise, prepare for the long-range version.

Loot

  • Rhino split Horn

Giant Albino Spider

Smalland Giant Albino Spider After beating the Rhino Beetle, you can proceed to find and kill the Giant Albino Spider. Being the second boss in Smalland in the order, this boss can be a tougher fight than its beetle predecessor.

Location

Talk to Lisandra to know the location of the Giant Albino Spider. Alternatively, you can find travel to the easternmost region of the Swamp biome. Look for and enter a cave to find this boss.

Fight Tips

There are two things to watch out for when fighting the Giant Albino Spider: its high damage output and the poison debuff. Craft and bring as many potions as possible because you might need them to survive this fight. This boss is also resistant to piercing weapons and poison damage. Thankfully, its attack pattern resembles the game’s normal spiders. That means you can practice with those enemies first before fighting this boss. Tip: Turn on the game’s Arachnophobia mode if you find it tougher than expected to fight this boss because of its looks.

Loot

  • Albino Spider Eye

Black Hornet

Smalland Black Hornet The third boss in Smalland is the Black Hornet. It also has the most number of attacks out of the other bosses in Smalland and any of the game’s other creatures. You must be on your toes every time while fighting this major enemy. Otherwise, you might find yourself at the damaging end of its poisonous stinger.

Location

Unlike other bosses, the Black Hornet spawns in one of two possible locations. The first one is atop a dumpster in the Greylands biome. Its other spawn location is on top of a tree near the same dumpster.

Fight Tips

The Black Hornet has three attacks to watch out for:
  • A basic stinging attack (similar to hornets and wasps)
  • A faster version of the basic hornet sting
  • Charges at the player’s location
Both its second and third attacks have tell-tale signs before the Black Hornet does those moves. If the boss does a forward lean with a quick side-to-side stinging motion, it’ll do the fast charge. On the other hand, prepare for the high-damaging charge if it leans upwards and buzzes slightly. Note that this boss is resistant to edged and poison attacks. So, leave the sword in your chest for now. Instead, use other weapons like the Iron Hammer or Composite Bow.

Loot

  • Sapphire Wings

King Stag Beetle

Smalland King Stag Beetle Currently, the final encounter of the different bosses in Smalland is the King Stag Beetle, and it surprisingly only has one attack. However, getting hit by this move can spell doom for your Vanguard, so don't take it too lightly!

Location

You can find the King Stag Beetle in the Ruins biome. Here, search for a cave underneath a large tree. Enter that cavity, and you’ll eventually be in front of this menacing insect.

Fight Tips

At the time of writing, the King Stag Beetle has the most health out of all the bosses in the game. So, prepare yourself because you might be here for a while. As mentioned earlier, the King Stag Beetle only has one attack: a rushing charge at your position. You’ll know when it’s about to do this move when it starts clacking its mandibles. Thankfully, you have a short rest period after each attack. You can take this opportunity to heal or whale on the boss for maximum damage. But don’t use piercing weapons to try and harm it because this boss is resistant to those armaments.

Loot

  • Ancient Clover Seal

Spider Matriarch

Spider Matriarch Boss The Spider Matriarch is another mini-boss in Smalland that players can fight for extra loot.

Location

This boss’ home is under a tree in the Oak Forest biome. You’ll know if you’re near it if you start seeing many baby Spiderlings in the area (and if you need silk, this is the place to be).

Fight Tips

Don’t concentrate your attacks on the nearby Spiderlings because they won’t attack. So, focus all your attention on the Spider Matriarch. This boss also has two attacks:
  • A standard biting attack (similar to other spider-type enemies), and
  • A charging bite
You’ll know when it’ll charge when it raises its body for about three seconds. After it finishes this move, it’ll get itself stuck in the ground for a while, opening itself for punishment. Evade both attacks as much as possible. Also, don’t use piercing weapons and poison attacks in this fight because of the boss’ high resistance to them. Eventually, you’ll be victorious and collect the loot this mini-boss drops.

Loot

  • Chitin
  • Insect Egg
  • Insect Fat
  • Insect Fur
  • Poison Gland
  • Silk
  • Spider Eye
  • Spider Head
  • Spider Matriarch Fang
