How to Get the Naughty Present in Terraria

Posted on by justin
The Naughty Present is an item in Terraria that summons the Frost Moon event. But crafting this in-game item is no easy feat, especially since two of the things needed to make it are only obtainable in Hardmode. With that, here's how to get the Naughty Present in Terraria and how to kick off the Frost Moon event.

Naughty Present Crafting Recipe

Terraria Naughty Present Crafting Recipe To craft the Naughty Present in Terraria, you must use the following items near a Mythril or Orichalcum Anvil:
  • 20x Silk
  • 5x Ectoplasm
  • 5x Soul of Fright
You can make Silk at the Loom. Note that each Silk requires 7x Cobweb to make. Thankfully, cobwebs are reasonably easy to find underground, particularly if you find a spider’s nest. As for the Ectoplasm and the Soul of Fright, the world must be in Hardmode before you can acquire these items. Once you've reached Hardmode you can obtain Ectoplasm by killing Dungeon Spirits in the Dungeon, and you can obtain the Soul of Fright by defeating the Skeletron Prime boss (who will drop 25-40 of the item for repeat uses).

How To Use The Naughty Present In Terraria

Terraria Use Naughty Present You can use the Naughty Present much like any standard item in Terraria, but it does have specific requirements and restrictions:
  • It’s only usable at night. Using it during the day will present no results.
  • Players can’t use the Naughty Present during another event.
  • Using the Naughty Present during the Blood Moon event will cancel it outright.
Note that the world doesn't have to be in Hardmode to use the Naughty Present. That means you can make the item in a Hardmode world and use it in another pre-Hardmode world. Tip: When using the Naughty Present it's worth it to shield your town because NPCs can die if they get hit by Frost Moon enemies.

What Is The Frost Moon Event In Terraria?

Terraria Frost Moon Using the Naughty Present at night will trigger the Frost Moon event. This instance is similar to other events like the Goblin Party. However, instead, Christmas-themed enemies will spawn for 15 waves, plus an additional five “bonus waves” after that.
Enemies
The enemies you’ll encounter in this event are:
  • Present Mimic
  • Flocko
  • Gingerbread Man
  • Zombie Elf
  • Elf Archer
  • Nutcracker
  • Yeti
  • Elf Copter
  • Krampus
  • Everscream (boss)
  • Santa-NK1 (boss)
  • Ice Queen (boss)
Tip: Wear armor with above-average defensive stats because some of these enemies, such as the bosses, can hit hard. So maybe leave the Gladiator Armor set in one of your treasure chests for now, and take a break from looking awesome to survive instead.
Loot
Defeating these enemies will give you a chance to obtain unique Frost Moon drops. The items you may receive from this event are:
  • Elf set
  • Christmas Tree Sword
  • Razorpine
  • Festive Wings
  • Christmas Hook
  • Everscream Trophy
  • Everscream Relic (only available in Master Mode)
  • Shrub Star (only available in Master Mode)
  • Elf Melter
  • Chain Gun
  • Santa-NK1 Trophy
  • Santa-NK1 Relic (only available in Master Mode)
  • Toy Tank (only available in Master Mode)
  • Blizzard Staff
  • North Pole
  • Snowman Cannon
  • Baby Grinch Mischief Whistle
  • Reindeer Bells
  • Ice Queen Trophy
  • Ice Queen Relic (only available in Master Mode)
  • Frozen Crown (only available in Master Mode)
Make sure to prepare yourself before using the Naughty Present item and activating the Frost Moon event. Enemies will progressively become tougher with each wave, and it's no easy feat for newer players. You can test your Terraria survival skills in this event with a dedicated server here!
