How to Upgrade the Workbench in Valheim

Posted on by justin
The Workbench in Valheim is an interactive building that can let players craft, repair, and build structures. It’s an invaluable fixture to help players progress through the game. Now, you’re wondering how you can upgrade it to gain access to better items. Continue reading to find out!

How to Build the Workbench in Valheim

Workbench in Valheim Before you can upgrade the Workbench in Valheim, you must first build it. Note that it’s available to players during the early stages of the game. Still, it needs certain items for you to make. First, you must have a hammer, and crafting it requires 3x Wood and 2x Stone. Next, gather an additional 10x Wood. Equip the hammer afterward, and press the on-screen prompt to access the Build menu. Select the Workbench and place it on an applicable spot. Note that the Workbench must have a roof. Also, 70% of it should be surrounded by other structures, such as walls and foundations. Without these prerequisites, an error message appears, and the game won’t permit you to build the Workbench.

Workbench Upgrade Requirements

Upgrading the Workbench in Valheim needs you to build specific items near this interactive structure. Remember, crafting these objects must be near the Workbench enough for them to count.
Level 2 Upgrade
Build a Chopping Block, which requires 10x Wood and 10x Flint. By now, you should know that gathering Wood is possible by picking up branches on the ground or by chopping trees or stumps. But you must travel to the Meadows biome, particularly along its coastlines and river banks, to gather Flint.
Level 3 Upgrade
Build a Tanning Rack, which requires 10x Wood, 15x Flint, 20x Leather Scraps, and 5x Deer Hide. As its name implies, you can harvest Deer Hide by killing the animal tied to the item’s name. However, pay attention to the wind direction to ensure the deer don’t smell you as you approach it. Otherwise, the animal will run away. Perhaps the toughest ingredient to gather for this upgrade is the Leather Scrap. You must kill Boars (found in the Meadows biome) to harvest this item. But gathering 20 pieces can take a while, especially when you must chase after these animals.
Level 4 Upgrade
At this point, you must build an Adze, which requires 10x Fine Wood and 3x Bronze to make. It’s also the first interactive structure in this list that requires a metal ingredient. Gather Bronze by processing 2x Copper and 1x Tin at the Forge. Alternatively, you can travel to the Frost Caves in the Mountain biome. Here, destroy the standing braziers to harvest this metal resource.
Level 5 Upgrade
At the time of writing, Level 5 is the last upgrade for the Workbench in Valheim. To achieve this objective, you must build a Tool Shelf, which requires 10x Fine Wood, 4x Iron, and 4x Obsidian. Smelt Scrap Iron or Iron Ore at the Smelter to create Iron. Another way to gather this resource is to destroy the wooden doors in the frozen caves where you can also find Bronze. As for the Obsidian, you can find it on the slopes of the Mountain biome. But you must have the Iron Pickaxe to mine it. It’s also possible to find Obsidian inside Loot chests inside the Frost Caves. Tip: If you’re playing solo, you can use admin commands to spawn items. For example, type the correct command to spawn Obsidian to help create the Tool Shelf. Valheim Servers Promo Image
