Terraria Duke Fishron Boss Guide: How to Summon, Loot, and Tips & Tricks

Posted on by justin
Duke Fishron in Terraria is an optional Hardmode boss that can pose a serious threat to both newcomers and veteran players. It has an aggressive behavior, which becomes more frightening as the battle progresses. Plus, this boss has a third phase, unlike most bosses in the game that only have two.

How to Summon Duke Fishron in Terraria

Terraria Duke FIshron Aside from a world being in Hardmode, players must fish out Duke Fishron in the Ocean biome. Also, the bait used should be Truffle Worm. You can’t summon this boss other than this method unless you install a particular mod.

Duke Fishron Attacks, Loot, and Tips & Tricks

Terraria Duke Fishron Fight Duke Fishron’s attacks have a fairly high chance of inflicting the Bleeding and Feral Bite debuffs. The former prevents natural health regeneration. As for the latter, this debuff reduces health regeneration efficiency and may inflict the Confused, Cursed, Darkness, Silenced, Slow, and Weak debuffs. Players can prepare for this battle by bringing items to prevent these debuffs. For Bleeding, you can prevent this debuff by equipping the Adhesive Bandage accessory. Equip the Ankh Charm or Ankh Shield to prevent the other debuffs from Feral Bite. However, you’ll still receive the reduced health regeneration debuff if you get hit by Duke Fishron, and you’re not wearing the Adhesive Bandage accessory. Also, don’t stray too far from the battlefield or attempt to escape from this boss. Like other bosses, such as Plantera, Duke Fishron will enter an enraged mode. If so, the boss’ behavior intensifies, allowing it to deal double damage and gain double defense. Its attacks also become faster than normal. You may also want to wait until you defeat the Golem boss before attempting this fight. That way, you can access hard-hitting weapons like the Vampire Knives or even the Zenith.
Attacks
Understanding Duke Fishron’s attacks will help you win this fight. Its attack patterns are few, but they’ll change with each phase. For the first phase, Duke Fishron’s attacks are:
  • 10 to 20 Detonating Bubbles appear from the boss’ mouth and travel in the player’s direction
  • Liquid blobs fall from the boss’ fins, which will spawn Sharknados that fire Sharkron missiles
When Duke Fishron’s health falls below 50%, its skin darkens, and its eyes glow. This new appearance indicates the battle’s second phase. In this stage, the boss’ attacks are:
  • The Detonating Bubbles leave additional bubbles behind
  • Only one liquid blob falls from its fins but it will summon a giant Cthulhunado that fires twice as many Sharkron missiles
Finally, the boss’ third phase happens when its health falls below 15%. This time, Duke Fishron’s defense falls to zero. However, a fog appears and it’ll become invisible, as it tries to charge at your character when you least expect it. However, you can anticipate its attack by paying attention to the boss’ eyes. You’ll notice a quick glow before the Duke Fishron charges at you. Use this opportunity to hit it a few times before disappearing into the fog.
