Just in time for a Valentine’s Day surprise is a moldy monster that unfortunately only wants Steve and friends to die. So, today, we explore Minecraft’s latest mob in our Minecraft 1.21 Bogged skeleton guide.

What are Bogged Skeletons?

Minecraft 1.21 Bogged Skeleton Available as of Minecraft 1.21 Snapshot 24W07A, the mob officially dubbed “bogged” is a skeleton variant covered in mud and moss. They have less health than their regular skeleton cousins and shoot much slower, but they make up for that loss in power by firing deadly poison arrows. Overall, they make for quite the danger.

Minecraft 1.21 Bogged Skeleton Spawn Locations

Minecraft 1.21 Bogged Skeleton Trial Spawner Screenshot Bogged Skeletons spawn naturally in Swamp and Mangrove Swamp biomes. Players will also find them in Trial Chambers, where they have a chance to be the mob spawned by Trial Spawners.

Minecraft 1.21 Bogged Skeleton Drops

  • 100% Chance - Bone (0 to 2)
  • 100% Chance - Arrow (0 to 2)
  • 50% Chance - Arrow of Poison (1)
  • Experience (5 to 8)
Alongside any naturally spawned equipment the Bogged happens to be wearing, it can drop Bones, Arrows, and Arrows of Poison. The number of Bones and Arrows increases with each level of the Looting enchantment to a maximum of five at Looting III, while the odds of the Bogged dropping an Arrow of Poison increases to a maximum of 93%. Finally, it is important to note that an Arrow of Poison can only be dropped when a Bogged Skeleton is killed by the player.

Combating Bogged Skeletons

Minecraft 1.21 Swamp Biome Cave Combat Screenshot When traveling into Swamp biomes or Trial Chambers, it never hurts to have a few Buckets of Milk on hand. Drinking milk will completely cleanse all status effects on the player, nullifying the Bogged Skeleton’s poison arrows entirely. Outside of that, they are handled much like regular skeletons. A shield being the most effective method to block their arrows and get in close.
