Stardew Valley: How to Get the Lightning Rod
Posted on by
Storms in Stardew Valley do much more harm than good. Failure to provide adequate protection can lead to damage and even the destruction of certain objects on the farm. Place a Lightning Rod, however, and you can protect your Stardew Valley property from Mother Nature’s wrath. Here, we cover how to get the lightning rod and everything you'll need to enjoy storms stress-free!
Only one method exists in Vanilla Stardew Valley to unlock the Lightning Rod crafting recipe: reach Foraging Lv. 6. Once unlocked, craft 1x Lightning Rod using 1x Iron Bar, 1x Refined Quartz, and 5x Bat Wing. However, unlocking the recipe and crafting it isn’t the only way to get the Lightning Rod in Stardew Valley. The other method is to give 10,000 gold pieces at the Vault in the Community Center.
Like its real-world counterpart, the Lightning Rod in Stardew Valley intercepts lightning strikes that might otherwise harm your farm. Without this structure, lightning can potentially damage various items and structures in the farm, including (but not limited to) crops and trees.
Thankfully, the placement of the Lightning Rod has no importance. So, farmers have the freedom to place this structure anywhere on their farms, and the Lightning Rods should attract incoming lightning strikes.
A Lightning Rod will begin processing a Battery Pack once lightning hits it. With that, a Lightning Rod can’t attract lightning if it’s currently in the processing state. Placing multiple Lightning Rods is ideal to ensure farms remain protected during storms.
Note: A Lightning Rod in Stardew Valley finishes processing a Battery Pack immediately after the day of the storm, instead of 24 hours later, as of Update 1.4.
Once processed, use the Battery Pack and other materials to craft additional items, namely the following:
