ARK: Survival Evolved Argentavis: How to Tame, Stats, & more

Posted on by justin
Among the many tamable creatures in ARK: Survival Evolved, the Argentavis is one of the most sought-after flying creatures in the game. It’s an aggressive beast that can defeat some of ARK’s toughest enemies, especially in groups. Here, you’ll learn about this vicious yet amazing ARK creature, and how to tame it.

What is the Argentavis in ARK: Survival Evolved?

ARK: Survival Evolved Argentavis The Argentavis in ARK: Survival Evolved is a powerful and aggressive predator and scavenger. Its appearance is reminiscent of a vulture and condor. Although some may make the mistake that it looks like an eagle. It’s also a near-sighted flying creature, which means it often requires some provoking before it attacks. But once it fixates on a target, the Argentavis will persistently chase after its attackers.

  • Weight: 400 base value. +8 per level increase for wild units (+4% for tamed).
  • Melee Damage: No base value. +1.25 per level increase for wild units.
  • Movement Speed: 100% base value.
  • Torpidity: 600 base value. +36 per level increase for wild units.

Fighting the Argentavis

You’ll know if you’re near an Argentavis if you hear a loud screech in your surroundings. If so, prepare to hit it with your ranged weapons. Once provoked, the Argentavis will relentlessly attack the player that hit it. This violent behavior will continue until it torpors. Then, it’ll run away. Apart from its aggressiveness, the Argentavis usually come in packs. That means attacking one will enrage the entire group. So, watch the area as you fight one or a pack, so you won’t become surrounded.

Taming the Argentavis

The Argentavis’ predatory nature can make it difficult to tame. But remember this creature’s preferred consumables to tame it properly, which are the following:
  • Preferred Kibble: Superior Kibble
  • Preferred Food: Raw Mutton
Aside from the food options mentioned above, you can also use the following choices to help tame an Argentavis:
  • Cooked Lamb Chop
  • Raw Prime Meat
  • Cooked Prime Meat
  • Raw Prime Fish Meat
  • Raw Meat

Note that players can still use different strategies to domesticate this ARK creature.
Chase and Shoot
Despite its aggressiveness, the Argentavis will flee when torpor. So, prepare for a chase if it knows it will almost knock out. However, avoid getting too close to a tired Argentavis, as it’ll still attack you. Instead, shoot it with a ranged weapon, like a Crossbow or Longneck Rifle. Note: The Argentavis takes 50% extra damage from long-range weapons, making it easier to knock out than melee attacks.
Traps
Another strategy is to take advantage of Argentavis’ aggressive demeanor. Since it’ll always go for the attack, you can lure it to a location with traps and/or pens. One example is to create four dinosaur gateways with two dinosaur gates. Then, provoke an Argentavis and lure it to the trap site. Once it’s in the trap, close the gates and begin the knockout and taming process.
Rapid Regeneration
Taking advantage of an Argentavis’ Rapid Regeneration status is a fairly easy way to tame the creature. First, apply torpor to it. Then, knock it out while its Rapid Regeneration is active. The idea here is to feed the Argentavis as soon as it consumes its food. Doing so should domesticate the creature within a few minutes. Note: Since patch 279.22, which is also the Argentavis TLC update, some players might encounter glitches when trying to mount this creature.

Utility

Once tamed, an Argentavis can take on various roles. Some of its functions are the following:
  • War mount: This flying creature has a high damage output with excellent maneuverability
  • Transport: Its high weight capacity makes it ideal for short- and long-distance transport
  • Strength in numbers: Although the Argentavis doesn’t have a pack bonus, tough enemies can be quickly outmatched by a group of this flying creature
