Project Zomboid Gun Guide: All Guns, Stats, & How to Get Them

Posted on by justin
A gun in Project Zomboid can help you escape the hands, and teeth, of the undead hordes that hunt you. Keep reading as we take a deep dive into all the Project Zomboid guns, their stats, and where you can find them!

Every Gun in Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid Gun Vanilla Project Zomboid places each gun in the game into three categories: handguns, shotguns, and rifles. Each gun has distinct properties, providing unique pros and cons that could be the difference between surviving a sticky situation and falling to the dead, so understanding your firearm and its limits is an absolute must!

Handguns

Project Zomboid Handguns

D-E Pistol

The D-E Pistol uses 0.44 Magnum rounds as ammunition. It’s also capable of delivering the highest maximum damage out of all the handguns in the game. It’s also a flexible gun, thanks to its compatibility with attachments like the Laser, Red Dot, and Iron Sight. However, this gun is loud. Shooting one round from this gun will make every zombie within a 70-tile radius hear you.
Stats
  • Weapon weight: 1.5
  • Range: 0.61 to 10 tiles
  • Damage: 1 to 1.9
  • Accuracy: 20
  • Knockdown: 2
  • Knockback: 0.3
Location
Players can find the D-E Pistol relatively anywhere in Project Zomboid. But the rate of its appearance depends on the server’s difficulty settings. Gun stores, police stations, and armories generally have this gun in their wares. But you can also find it in cabinets, dressers, and storage crates.

M1911 Pistol

The M1911 is a high-capacity pistol with a fast reload time. It uses 0.45 Auto Rounds for ammunition and is compatible with the attachments that can fit the D-E Pistol. Although this gun is fast, it can jam. If it happens, players might be in a sticky situation when battling zombie hordes. Tip: You can equip this gun and bash down doors with it.
Stats
  • Weapon weight: 1.5
  • Range: 0.61 to 8 tiles
  • Damage: 1 to 1.4
  • Critical hit chance: 20%
  • Accuracy: 40
  • Knockdown: 2
  • Knockback: 0.3
Location
You can find the M1911 Pistol in military camps, bases, and police stations. But it may also spawn in bags and in pistol cases inside homes.

M36 Revolver

The M36 Revolver uses 0.38 Special Rounds as ammo. Unlike the M1911 Pistol, the M36 can’t jam. It also doesn’t require magazines but has a slow reload time. This pistol is also the quietest firearm in the game, so to speak. Its noise radius is only 30 tiles, compared to the 70-tile sound of the D-E Pistol. Players can also use this gun while driving vehicles.
Stats
  • Weapon weight: 1.5
  • Range: 0.61 to 6 tiles
  • Damage: 0.7 to 1.2
  • Accuracy: 65
  • Knockdown: 2
  • Knockback: 0.3
Location
Search the drawers and wardrobes in houses for a chance to find the M36 Revolver. Gun stores, police stations, and shooting ranges are your best bets in finding this gun. But you might be able to loot this gun from zombie corpses.

M625 Revolver

The M625 Revolver uses the same bullets as the M1911 Pistol. Like its revolver cousin, the M36, the M625 can’t jam. It’s also a high-damaging pistol but has the same noise radius as the D-E Pistol.
Stats
  • Weapon weight: 1.75
  • Range: 0.61 to 9 tiles
  • Damage: 1 to 1.6
  • Accuracy: 30
  • Knockdown: 2
  • Knockback: 0.3
Location
You might find the M625 Revolver as loot from killing the undead, albeit rarely. On the other hand, you can search inside cabinets, wardrobes, dressers, and other similar cases to find this gun. Gun stores, shooting ranges, and police stations will also most likely have this gun in stock. Note: Searching warehouses for this firearm may also yield other loot, like generators.

M9 Pistol

The M9 Pistol uses 9mm caliber rounds as ammo. It’s an all-rounder of a pistol, considering that its stats and usefulness are about average compared to other handguns in the game. Nonetheless, it has decent accuracy with a fairly low noise level.
Stats
  • Weapon weight: 1.5
  • Range: 0.61 to 7 tiles
  • Damage: 0.6 to 1
  • Accuracy: 50
  • Knockdown: 2
  • Knockback: 0.3
Location
Finding the M9 Pistol isn’t usually a problem in Project Zomboid. You can find it in many places, including cabinets, wardrobes, and storage crates. Sometimes zombies will carry this weapon with them as well.

Magnum

The Magnum is a handgun typically reserved for the brave and the bold. Shooting its 0.44 Magnum Rounds will be heard by the undead within an 80-tile radius. But it also has the highest zombie-stopping power and the longest range for a pistol in the game.
Stats
  • Weapon weight: 2
  • Range: 0.61 to 11 tiles
  • Damage: 1.2 to 1.9
  • Accuracy: 20
  • Knockdown: 2
  • Knockback: 0.3
Location
You’ll likely find the Magnum in police stations and shooting ranges. Safe houses may also have this gun, as well as some barricaded buildings.

Shotguns

Shotguns

Double Barrel Shotgun

As its name implies, the Double Barrel Shotgun can only fire two shells before you need to reload it. This firearm uses standard shotgun shells and will fire them in a widespread pattern. That means it’s a good choice for clearing small groups of zombies. But the Double Barrel Shotgun is also one of the loudest Project Zomboid guns, and zombies can hear your character firing this weapon from up to 100 tiles away!
Stats
  • Weapon weight: 4
  • Range: 0.61 to 9 tiles
  • Damage: 2 to 2.7
  • Accuracy: 80
  • Knockdown: 8
  • Knockback: 0.8
Location
Project Zomboid players may find Double Barrel Shotguns hidden in different buildings, such as police departments and gun shops. Old barricaded buildings may also have these firearms within their walls. Some of the undead may also drop a Double Barrel Shotgun upon killing them.

Sawed-Off Double Barrel Shotgun

You can transform your Double Barrel Shotgun into its Sawed-Off version. Doing so will reduce its range, but the tradeoff is that it brings additional power to each shot.
Stats
  • Weapon weight: 4
  • Range: 0.67 to 8 tiles
  • Damage: 2 to 2.7
  • Critical hit chance: 80%
  • Accuracy: 80
  • Knockdown: 8
  • Knockback: 0.8
Location
You can only craft the Sawed-Off Double Barrel Shotgun by interacting with it in your inventory with a saw. Note that this action is irreversible.

JS-2000 Shotgun

Previously known as just the “Shotgun,” the JS-2000 has a pump-action mechanic that uses standard shotgun shells for ammo. Despite its shells flying at a wide range when shot, the gun is still quite accurate. It also shares the same loudness level as the Double Barrel Shotgun. Like the M36 Revolver, you can use the JS-2000 Shotgun while driving a vehicle. Various attachments are also compatible with this firearm, including the Choke Tube (both Full and Improved versions) and the Sling.
Stats
  • Weapon weight: 4
  • Range: 0.61 to 7 tiles
  • Damage: 1.5 to 2.2
  • Accuracy: 70
  • Knockdown: 8
  • Knockback: 0.8
Location
Like most firearms in the game, players can find the JS-2000 in places like police departments and gun shops. But you can also find this gun on the corpses of suicide victims.

Rifles

Project Zomboid Rifles

M14 Rifle

This semi-automatic rifle uses the M14 (.308) Clips as ammunition. Unlike shotguns, the M14 can only hit one enemy at a time with good aim. It can also jam, which players need to press the “X” key on their keyboards to unjam it. Despite its usefulness in clearing zombie hordes from afar, this gun isn’t for players with poor aim. This rifle has low accuracy, and players must have at least a level 5 aiming trait to use it effectively.
Stats
  • Weapon weight: 4
  • Range: 0.61 to 10 tiles
  • Damage: 1.2 to 2
  • Accuracy: 50
  • Knockback: 0.5
Location
Search police stations, gun shops, and military bases for this rifle. Some rifle cases in homes may also M14s in them. You may also break inside the trunk of police cars for a chance to find this rifle.

M16 Assault Rifle

The M16 Assault Rifle is a military-grade firearm using 5.56mm Magazines for its ammunition. It has the chance to pierce through targets, hitting two zombies at a time. It’s also a fast-shooting firearm, but its speedy use of bullets means it has one of the highest chances to jam of any gun in Project Zomboid. Thankfully, players can switch between single and automatic fire for this gun. Firing one shot at a time helps reduce the risk of this gun jamming.
Stats
  • Weapon weight: 4
  • Attack speed: 0.5
  • Range: 0.61 to 11 tiles
  • Damage: 0.8 to 1.4
  • Accuracy: 20
  • Knockdown: 4
  • Knockback: 0.5
Location
Players can find M16 Assault Rifles in different military facilities, including the camp outside of Louisville. Gun stores may also have M16s on display, albeit rarely.

MSR700 Rifle

The MSR700 is a slow-firing rifle using 0.224 Rounds as ammo. Although it doesn’t require magazines, players must rack the gun with each shot fired. It can also jam, but pressing the “X” key should unjam it. The MSR700 is also a rifle with low accuracy, and players need an aiming level of at least 4 to use it effectively. Still, some players who have difficulty using this gun may find it easier to use when the performance updates drop with Build 42.
Stats
  • Weapon weight: 4
  • Attack speed: 0.5
  • Range: 0.61 to 10 tiles
  • Damage: 0.6 to 1.3
  • Accuracy: 27
  • Knockback: 0.5
Location
Many homes have the MSR700 Rifle, making it a fairly common gun to find in the game. Gun shops are also likely to have this rifle as part of their wares.

MSR788 Rifle

Like its cousin, the MSR700, the MSR788 uses a bolt-action mechanism to reload and fire its 0.308 bullets. It may also jam, and each bullet can pierce targets. However, the MSR788 has a slower rate of fire compared to the MSR700. Compensating this drawback is its more powerful ammunition.
Stats
  • Weapon weight: 4
  • Attack speed: 0.5
  • Range: 0.61 to 10 tiles
  • Damage: 1.2 to 2
  • Accuracy: 27
  • Knockback: 0.3
Location
You may find the MSR788 Rifle in the trunks of some police cruisers. Many homes, military bases, gun shops, and police stations also have MSR788s in their storage areas. Project Zomboid Server
