While ye be sailing the seven seas, you'll want to be sure to keep eating and maintaining your food buffs. Windrose is a survival game, after all. While there are many dishes you can prepare, few are as satisfying to a seafaring pirate as a good old fish. Our Windrose fishing guide can tell you how to catch fish, where to catch them, and how to cook them into a delicious dish. Let's dive in!

Windrose Fishing Guide: How to Fish, All Fish Types, Locations, & Cooking Recipes

Windrose Crafting Fishing Pole screenshot Before you can go fishing, you'll need a fishing rod to get the job done. Luckily, this isn't too hard to do. First, you'll need the recipe for a Simple Fishing Rod. Head to any location that has Hardwood (the Foothills biome is filled with the stuff), collect some, and the crafting recipe will automatically be added to your crafting inventory. Here's what you'll need:
  • Hardwood: 5
  • Rope: 3
  • Foothills Iron Ingots: 2
With the recipe acquired and a Simple Fishing Rod made, you're now ready to catch some fish! Head to any source of water while you're on land or a dock, equip your Simple Fishing Rod, and click the left mouse button to let it fly. All that's left is to patiently wait and watch the bobber at the end of your line. The moment you see it, create a splashing effect on the water, click again, and presto! You've got a captured fish. Patience really is key here. Occasionally, the bobber will slightly wiggle. Click when it does that, and you'll reel in nothing.

Windrose Fish Types & Where to Find Them

Windrose Fishing Inventory screenshot At this point in time, there are 10 different species of fish you can catch in Windrose. It doesn't matter what fish you catch when you're preparing a meal, but there is a special reward you can earn if you catch at least one of each: The Fisherman's Ring. With this, you'll have a +15% chance to catch an extra fish with every successful reeling. Luckily, all you need to do to get the ring is catch those 10 fish, and it will automatically appear in your inventory. However, as a piece of jewelry, you can upgrade the ring's effect to a +30% increase. You'll need to use a Jewlry Table, 10 Silver Ingots, 10 Tumbaga Ingots, & 3 Sapphires. Here are all 10 fish and where you can hope to catch them:

Windrose Fish Cooking Recipes

As far as cooking with fish goes, there are only four dishes to choose from. Each one requires Fish Fillet, which can be acquired from any type of fish. Of course, none of these recipes requires only Fish Fillet, so you'll have to do some adventuring for the remaining ingredients. Each dish will give you a different buffing effect and restore a bit of health. Naturally, the rarest dish, a Seafood Platter, will offer the biggest buff. However, even the easy-to-craft and uncommon Seafood Skewer can provide you with a nice boost of +5 strength. While that might not sound like much, there are fearsome foes scattered across Windrose, and you'll need all the help you can get to defeat them.
