Vintage Story Fruit Tree Guide: All Types, Growth Requirements, Locations, & More
Posted on by
Vintage Story might draw inspiration from eldritch horror themes, but it doesn't mean players can enjoy some fairly simple pleasures in this harsh survival environment. One notable example is fruit trees, which players can take advantage of for their fruit and other resources. So, dive into our Vintage Story Fruit Tree Guide to learn more about these plants' types, locations, growth requirements, and more!
Fruit tree locations in Vintage Story can be tricky, especially since its default look closely resembles a regular tree, and there are no guaranteed spawns, so players must find them in climates that support each different type. Oftentimes, players can distinguish fruit trees by walking close to one another and inspecting their patterns and colors. However, arguably, the best way to differentiate a fruit tree from a regular one is by its trunk, as it’s slimmer compared to standard trees.
On the other hand, flowering fruit trees are easier to spot than normal fruit trees since the former has leaves that are dissimilar to the latter. Also, note that fruit trees can spawn at different areas of the map. Nonetheless, the type of fruit tree spawning at a particular location depends on different conditions, particularly temperature and rain.
The following types of fruit trees in Vintage Story are the following, including their temperature and rain requirements to spawn:

Planting and Cultivating Fruit Trees in Vintage Story
First, gather cuttings from a fruit tree by using an axe on it. Note that players can only gather one fruit tree cutting per broken part. Also, a fruit tree in Vintage Story has three block types: tree stem, tree branch, and tree leaves. Although it’s possible to cut the stem for firewood, only the branch block yields the cutting. With the fruit tree cutting in hand, place it directly in the ground to begin the planting process. However, each cutting in Vintage Story only has a 40% chance of taking root. Additionally, the plant won’t take root if it’s beyond the temperature comfort zone. Alternatively, players can graft a fruit tree cutting to another fruit tree. Cultivation through grafting has a higher success rate than regular planting, albeit it only improves the chances by an additional 10%. Also, the host tree must have an “open cut” on the branch to receive the fruit tree cutting. It’s also ideal for both fruit tree species to have similar comfort temperature requirements. Otherwise, the resulting tree will have mismatched flowering or fruiting cycles, resulting in more challenging care requirements. Vintage Story fruit trees must also be exposed to cold temperatures before experiencing warmth. Inspired by the real-life process called Vernalization, fruit trees in Vintage Story must experience about 1.5 to 2.5 degrees below their comfortable temperature zones for approximately 220 to 280 in-game hours. If done correctly, the plants flower when exposed to their comfortable temperature ranges for extended periods. However, six of the 12 fruit tree species in Vintage Story are considered evergreen trees, which means they don't have specific flowering requirements. Players, especially beginners, may consider planting these fruit trees since they’re easier to cultivate than others. These six evergreen fruit trees are orange, olive, mango, breadfruit, lychee, and pomegranate.Planting Fruit Trees in Greenhouses
Similar to tree-planting in other games, such as Stardew Valley, Vintage Story players can plant and cultivate fruit trees in greenhouses. Doing so allows the trees to grow even in harsh outside weather conditions, particularly during winter. While inside a greenhouse, a fruit tree can take advantage of the closed environment’s +5-degree temperature boost. This controlled setting promotes earlier fruit production. However, it’s only possible to plant one fruit tree per greenhouse as the plant reaches a height of 6 blocks and a width of 5 blocks.Harvesting Fruit from Fruit Trees
Each fruit tree in Vintage Story cycles through five growth stages: dormant, plain, flowering, fruiting, and ripe. A tree labeled “with ripe fruit” can be harvested, and players can consume the gathered consumable item to recover satiety. Most consumed fruit in Vintage Story recovers 80 satiety with the exception of the cherry and olive. In particular, eating a cherry only recovers 40 satiety while consuming an olive restores 100 satiety. Note: Unharvested fruit from fruit trees disappear over time.Create your own
