Terraria is bathed in a crimson color as the Blood Moon appears in the night sky. During this event, enemies that seem to have crawled from the deepest depths of hell rise from their slumber, searching for their next victims. Here we'll cover how to start the Blood Moon event in Terraria, its loot tables across difficulties, and what it takes to survive it!
Similar to the Solar Eclipse invasion, the spawn rate of all surface enemies increases during the Blood Moon event in Terraria. The game also douses its visuals with a red filter, making it appear redder than usual. Red water droplets will also come from the sky if it rains during the event.
NPCs are vulnerable to enemy attacks during Terraria’s Blood Moon event. So, bring the fight out of your town to prevent unwanted NPC death. Aside from this tip, here are other ideas to consider when going against this invasion:
Blood Moon Event: An Overview

How to Start the Blood Moon Event
Before version 1.1, the Blood Moon event in Terraria had a 14.3% chance of happening at night. After that patch, the chances of this event occurring became 11.1%. Although it’s a random occurrence, players can trigger the Blood Moon using the Bloody Tear item. Get this item by defeating enemies that spawn during the event. Also, the words “The Blood Moon is rising…” will appear on the screen’s lower-left corner when the event triggers. Using the Bloody Tear in the day won’t make these words appear, and the event won’t trigger. But the item will stay in the player’s inventory. Note: The Blood Moon only spawns at nights when the moon is present, and a player has at least 120 maximum health.Enemies and Loot

- Lock yourself in a room without doors. Use attacks that can pierce through surfaces to defeat enemies and remain protected.
