Stardew Valley Junimo Hut Guide: How to Get, Harvesting Layout, & More
Posted on by
It’s safe to say that time is always of the essence for players in Stardew Valley. However, you can only do so much with one pair of hands. So, increase your working hands at your farm with the help of Junimos! Keep reading, and learn how to employ these creatures’ help with the Stardew Valley Junimo Hut.
Stardew Valley players can get the Junimo Hut in Stardew Valley through the Wizard at his tower at the westernmost area of Cindersap Forest. Note that this NPC only opens his home to visitors from 6 AM to 11 PM each day.
Additionally, the Junimo Hut only becomes available as a purchasable option after completing the “Goblin Problem” quest. Trigger this quest by speaking to the Henchman outside of the Witch’s Hut and giving him a Void Mayonnaise. Next, give the Magic Ink from the Witch’s Hut (from completing the Dark Talisman quest) to the Wizard.
With the Junimo Hut unlocked, talk to the Wizard to build this building on your farm. Note that the NPC demands a 20,000 gold payment to establish the hut, along with 200x Stone, 9x Starfruit, and 100x Fiber as building materials.
Note: Junimo Hut placements are only available within the base farm layouts in Vanilla Stardew Valley. As of Update 1.6, it’s not possible to place a Junimo Hut in Ginger Island.
Note that the Junimo Hut in Stardew Valley takes up 3x2 tiles in your farm. However, the Junimos have a serviceable range of 17x17 tiles from the building. In particular, Junimos can harvest crops 7 tiles away to the north, east, and west of the building, and 8 tiles to the south.
With that, it’s ideal for the Junimo Hut to be at the center of a major crop field. Although helpful, Junimos are fairly inefficient at harvesting crops. Oftentimes, these creatures find themselves stuck when obstacles block their paths. So, a minimalist farm layout can generally find it more beneficial to take advantage of the Junimos’ services than a crowded arrangement.
Remember, the Junimos spawning from the Junimo Hut can harvest most plants in the farm. Players can take advantage of this automation by collecting items like flowers, fiber, and various crops. These cute creatures also work tirelessly throughout the day, except in winter or when it rains.
Additionally, Junimos don’t forage crops, harvest items from trees, or collect plants in Garden Pots. The Junimos’ tiny bodies also can’t take the weight of giant crops, such as Cauliflower, Powdermelon, and Qi Fruit, and will actively avoid them during their harvesting runs.
Despite the Junimos’ relative harvesting inefficiency, players may boost their productivity by placing Raisins inside the Junimo Hut. Do so to have a 20% chance to obtain double the harvested crops when picking up the purple bugs from inside the building. A sign appears in front of the building when the Raisins’ effect is active.
Tip: Craft Raisins by placing Grapes in a Dehydrator.
Finally, Junimos don’t grant Farming XP when they harvest. However, the quality of items harvested is affected by the player’s Farming level. So, consider increasing this skill to take full advantage of the Junimos’ harvesting automation, and have higher chances of receiving top-quality items.
