RimWorld Chemfuel Guide: How to Get, Uses, Storage, & more
Posted on by
Whether you're powering a Jump Pack, Passenger Shuttle, or anything in between, you need the right energy for the job. In RimWorld, Chemfuel is the golden goose of vehicular go-go juice. You need more and more Chemfuel as time goes on, and here we'll tell you exactly how to get it and what it's used for.
Luckily, Chemfuel in RimWorld can be acquired in a few different ways. Naturally, some of these methods are more lucrative than others, but taking advantage of more than one method should keep you well-stocked.
As discussed above, Chemfuel is for powering various weapons, vehicles, and machines.
To place it in anything, you must assign a colonist to Haul the Chemfuel to its desired location. Give a colonist the "Hauling" command, right-click on your preferred device, and select "Prioritize Refilling" to get the Chemfuel flowing.
When filling a device of any kind with Chemfuel, the most important thing to be aware of is Chemfuel storage. Chemfuel is incredibly flammable. If you have it stored out in the open and near a power conduit, it can ignite and lead to massive amounts of damage to your buildings and/or colonists. Of course, this would also cause you to lose your supply of Chemfuel.
To avoid these tragic accidents, consider the following:
How to Get Chemfuel in RimWorld
Luckily, Chemfuel in RimWorld can be acquired in a few different ways. Naturally, some of these methods are more lucrative than others, but taking advantage of more than one method should keep you well-stocked.
Biofuel Refinery
First, you can create a Biofuel Refinery. Assign some colonists to work in one of these buildings as crafters, and you can transform Wood or Raw Food into Chemfuel. Here's everything you need to build a Biofuel Refinery:- Biofuel Refinery
- 150 Steel
- 3 Components
Boomalopes
Another method for acquiring Chemfuel is assigning an Animal Handler to a tamed Boomalope. This will give you 11 Chemfuel each time the strange critter is milked. You can gather this Chemfuel from each tamed Boomalope once a day, but the animals' yield will be reduced if they're hungry.Infinite Chemreactors
This is a very relaxed form of Chemfuel creation if you have the electricity. So long as you can sustain an Infinite Chemreactor with 300W of power, you'll receive 75 Chemfuel every 10 in-game days. The best part? This method of Chemfuel creation doesn't require any work form colonists. Unfortunatley, these handy buildings cannot be crafted. They're only received as a randomly generated reward from completing requests. As a result, you'll just have to complete as many quests as you can and cross your fingers!Boomshrooms
As you're exploring the world, you might come across a glowforest plant called the Boomshroom. Harvest it, and you'll receive 8 Chemfuel for your efforts.Trade
Finally, you can always trade with Faction Bases or Merchants for whatever Chemfuel they might have available. If you're in a pinch, this is a fine method. However, generating your own Chemfuel is much more reliable for acquiring larger quantities. If you're playing on a RimWorld Together dedicated server, you can recruit your pals to make your Chemfuel production even faster!Chemfuel Uses in Rimworld

Of course, this would also cause you to lose your supply of Chemfuel.
To avoid these tragic accidents, consider the following:
- Only store Chemfuel in small, non-flammable rooms.
- Don't store all of your Chemfuel in a single room.
- If an accident does happen, you won't lose your entire supply this way.
- Don't store Chemfuel with Mortar Shells.
- Keep an eye out for unhappy colonists.
- They can occasionally decide to beat up Chemfuel until it explodes.
- Utilize Chemfuel Tanks to hold larger quantities of Chemfuel in smaller areas.
- Small Chemfuel Tank
- Crafting: 120 Steel
- Size: 2x2
- Chemfuel Storage: 250
- Large Chemfuel Tank
- Crafting: 200 Steel
- Size: 3x3
- Chemfuel Storage: 750
- Small Chemfuel Tank
- Utilize Shelves in secure locations with six maximized stacks of Chemfuel.
- With 150 Chemfuel in a stack and six slots in a Shelf, you can store 900 Chemfuel in a 2x1 tile space.
- Shelves are crafted with 20 Stuff

All Devices that Require Chemfuel
Naturally, different devices will have different Chemfuel requirements. We've outlined all machines powered by Chemfuel and their consumption requirements here:- Pod Launchers
- Requires 2.25 Chemfuel per tile traveled.
- Chemfuel Generators
- Requires 4.5 Chemfuel per day.
- Jump Packs
- Requires 20 Chemfuel per charge.
- Rocketswarm Launchers
- Requires 180 Chemfuel per reload.
- Smokepop Packs
- Requires 10 Chemfuel per use regardless of charges consumed.
- Firefoam Pop Packs
- Requires 30 Chemfuel per charge.
- Locust Armor
- Requires 20 Chemfuel per charge.
- Phoenix Armor
- Requires 40 Chemfuel per charge.
- Graveships
- Requires 10 Chemfuel per tile traveled or 50 Chemfuel per trip - whichever is greater.
- Passenger Shuttles
- Requires 3 Chemfuel per tile traveled or 50 Chemfuel per trip - whichever is greater.
