The Sledgehammer in Project Zomboid is one of the game’s most versatile pieces of equipment. It can be used as a tool to break through barricades and walls. Otherwise, it's also very effective as a weapon to smash zombie brains. So, continue reading to know where to find the Sledgehammer and how to use it properly.

Where To Find The Sledgehammer in Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid Sledgehammer Find the Sledgehammer in Project Zomboid by searching warehouses, construction sites, hardware stores, and industrial facilities. You may also find it on the road, particularly near a pothole or beside some traffic cones. Some homes may also have a Sledgehammer in them. However, the chances of finding a Sledgehammer in the open or one of the abandoned houses are slim, so if you're in desperate need, stick to the higher density locations.

Sledgehammer Stats and Usage

Project Zomboid Sledgehammer Use As a weapon, the Sledgehammer in Project Zomboid has one of the highest attack damages compared to other melee weapons. However, it also has the longest swing time, making its user vulnerable to attacks while in this animation. The Sledgehammer’s stats are the following:
  • Weight: 6
  • Equipped: Two-handed
  • Weapon Type: Blunt
  • Attack Speed: 4
  • Range: 0.7 to 1.35 tiles
  • Damage: 2 to 3
  • Knockback: 1
  • Knockdown: 3
The Sledgehammer’s size is also reasonably effective in dealing with a small group of zombies. One swing can hit up to three zombies at once. In comparison, swinging the baseball bat can only hit two. It’s also important to mention that swinging the Sledgehammer significantly strains your character. If used consecutively, you’ll become exhausted and unable to swing it when you lack the energy. Aside from bashing undead brains, the Sledgehammer in Project Zomboid also has other practical uses, which are the following:
  • Breaking barricades and doors
  • Chopping trees
  • Destroying tiles
As of Build 26, the Sledgehammer loses durability when hitting something (or someone). Use the following items to fix it:
  • 2x Wood Glue: 100% chance of success, repairs up to 55% (also needs Carpentry Level 2)
  • 2x Duct Tape: 95% chance of success, repairs up to 20%
  • 3x Glue: 95% chance of success, repairs up to 10%
  • 4x Adhesive Tape: 95% chance of success, repairs up to 10%
Finally, you can use a Sledgehammer to break a Watermelon into chunks. Use the Watermelon Chunks in recipes like Salad, Muffin, or Waffles.
