Five Must Try Minecraft Gamerules

Minecraft has a set of rules just like any game, but did you know there are some that can be changed? Today, we explore our five must try Minecraft gamerules that will add a bit of fun or outright change how you play.

Five Must Try Minecraft Gamerules

Minecraft Book
Player Sleeping Percentage
  • /gamerule playersSleepingPercentage 50
Beginning with a gamerule that is extraordinarily useful on multiplayer servers, we have player sleep percentage! This nifty command changes the percentage of players required to be sleeping for night to pass. For example, if a server had ten players, the command we listed above would make it so only fifty percent, or five players, need to be in bed.
Keep Inventory
  • /gamerule keepInventory true
The keep inventory gamerule is perfect for servers with young players or those simply seeking a casual adventure. Even if keep inventory is only used temporarily, it can be great for events like PVP tournaments where no one is supposed to lose their items. There are also some players (not me) use keep inventory in hard modpacks like RLCraft to make them a little easier.
Snow Accumulation Hight
  • /gamerule snowAccumulationHeight 8
This particular gamerule is quite fun for those who love snow biomes. Normally, falling snow can only leave one layer on blocks and structures. However, using the command above, that can be upped to eight layers of snow, which equals one block! This takes getting snowed in to an entirely new level.
Limited Crafting
  • /gamerule doLimitedCrafting true
Next, we have limited crafting, which disables the ability to craft anything that has yet to be unlocked in the crafting book. While that may seem annoying at first glance, it can lead to a fun challenge mode where players must work together or race to unlock the rarest recipes.
Minecart Max Speed
  • /gamerule minecartMaxSpeed 1000
Finally, we have the latest gamerule to join the fray! Available only in the experimental options of Minecraft 1.21.2, this extremely fun gamerule greatly increases the speed cap on Minecarts, allowing them to become the fastest form of travel in-game. Create everything from rollercoasters to bullet trains, all with one command!
