ARK: Survival Evolved Diplodocus: Stats, How to Tame, & more

Posted on by justin
The Diplodocus in ARK: Survival Evolved has the size and behavior reflecting its real-life counterpart that lived over 150 million years ago. It’s a gentle giant with an appetite for leaves, which makes it one of the easier dinosaurs in ARK to defeat or tame. So, continue reading as we dive deeper into this long-tailed sauropod in ARK: Survival Evolved.

What is the Diplodocus in ARK: Survival Evolved?

ARK: Survival Evolved Diplodocus Despite its massive size, the Diplodocus in ARK: Survival Evolved is still one of the smaller sauropods found in the game. But its size makes it faster than its bigger cousins, making it better at escaping bad situations and surviving. However, the Diplodocus has a friendly demeanor. This trusting nature will often lead to fatal encounters, for it may travel to predator territory willingly or otherwise. Nonetheless, players can take advantage of this dinosaur’s innocent behavior. ARK survivors will find that the Diplodocus won’t retaliate when attacked. Since it’s not fidgety, this sauropod can also be domesticated without relying on challenging or complicated taming techniques like the Rhyniognatha.

  • Stamina: 550 base value. +55 per level increase for wild units.

  • Food: 10,000 base value. +1,000 per level increase for wild units.
  • Weight: 800 base value. +16 per level increase for wild units.
  • Melee Damage: No base value. +1.25 per level increase for wild units.
  • Movement Speed: 100% base value.
  • Torpidity: 3,000 base value. +180 per level increase for wild units.

Fighting the Diplodocus

Engaging in combat with a Diplodocus in ARK: Survival Evolved is a fairly straightforward affair. It poses a minimal difficulty, if any. Note that this giant dinosaur can “attack,” but you’ll receive zero damage. Instead, it knocks you back, which is often nothing more than an inconvenience. But this knockback can still push you off a ledge, leading to a nasty fall. It’s wise to stay under the Diplodocus’ under-belly. That way, the creature can’t push you back, eliminating the risk of falling to your doom.

How to Tame the Diplodocus

ARK survivors can use relatively any knockout taming method they deem useful to domesticate a Diplodocus. However, its massive size also means it has a larger stomach than many other dinosaurs in the game. Below are this creature’s preferred food choices to help quicken the taming procedure:
  • Preferred Kibble: Regular Kibble
  • Preferred Food: Crops
Other consumables you can feed a Diplodocus to tame it are the ones below:
  • Fresh Barley
  • Fresh Wheat
  • Soybean
  • Dried Wheat
  • Mejoberry
  • Berries

Utility

Use the Diplodocus’ large size to your advantage. With its massive body, you can use this dinosaur for various roles, including the following:
  • Massive transport: The Diplodocus saddle can carry a maximum of 11 players (one driver and ten passengers), which also makes it a land battleship on four legs
  • Superb gatherer: Use this creature to gather large amounts of berries and thatch, thanks to its wide attack area and large weight capacity
  • Giant tank: Maxing out a Diplodocus’ stats allows it to take significant damage from enemies and survive
