Llamas are
wonderful companions to have around, but without some food, they may attack with their spit, leaving a horrid smell! So, today, we answer the question, what do llamas eat in Minecraft?

Llamas can eat wheat and
hay bales, granting varying effects. A piece of wheat slightly heals a llama for one heart, speeds up a baby llama’s growth by 10 seconds, and increases an untamed llama’s temper by three. Meanwhile, a hay bale will heal a llama for five hearts, speed up a baby llama’s growth by one minute and 30 seconds, and increase an untamed llama’s temper by 6.
Once a llama has been tamed, hay bales can also be fed to activate love mode, allowing two tamed llamas to breed.

Players can tame
llamas by repeatedly riding them until hearts are displayed. This typically takes some time, but feeding a lama wheat or hay bales will make the taming process more likely to succeed. That is the system that the previously mentioned increases to temper are referencing.
Where to Find Llamas
Java & Bedrock Edition Spawns
- Savanna Plateau (4)
- Windswept Hills (4-6)
- Windswept Forest (4-6)
- Windswept Gravelly Hills (4-6)
Bedrock Edition Exclusive Spawns
- Savanna (4)
- Windswept Savanna (4)
Llamas can spawn in herds of four to six in a few different biomes across the overworld. Above, we have listed them all, including those exclusive to
Bedrock Edition. Additionally, wandering traders can spawn with two llamas by their side all across the overworld.
In
Java Editon, separating these llamas from the wandering trader results in them becoming untamed. However, in Bedrock Edition, llamas separated from the Wandering Trader will immediately become tamed by the player.
As unethical as it may be, stealing from a wandering trader is a great way to get llamas without much effort, especially in the early game.
