Money can make the world go ‘round. However, the game doesn’t let you farm for bills and coins. Instead, you must farm for Scrap, the game’s currency. Use it to purchase items, such as powerful weapons from NPCs, and to research blueprints. So, keep reading this guide to learn how to farm Scrap in Rust, and get all the essential items and structures before your opponents.

How to Farm Scrap in Rust

Rust Farm Scrap Introduced as the “sweat equity resource” by Maurino Berry in the Rust Devblog 158, Scrap is the in-game currency found in various containers and locations. Players can find Scrap through normal progression, such as in barrels and crates. However, these containers generally don’t have much Scrap that’ll allow you to research high-tier blueprints or purchase expensive items outright. Instead, look for monuments with Recyclers in them. Use these structures to “scrap” certain items and transform them into Scrap. Note that not every monument in Rust has a Recycler in it. So, spend your time, effort, and resources in capturing the monuments listed below, as these likely have a Recycler or two:
  • Abandoned Supermarket
  • Airfield
  • Arctic Research Base
  • Bandit Camp
  • Ferry Terminal
  • Giant Excavator
  • Large Harbor
  • Small Harbor
  • Junkyard
  • Launch Site
  • Light House
  • Military Tunnels
  • Mining Outpost
  • Outpost
  • Oxum’s Gas Station
  • Power Plant
  • Radtown
  • Satellite Dish
  • Sewer Branch
  • Train Yard
  • Water Treatment Plant
Also, some Recyclers yield more Scrap than others, while certain locations result in less Scrap. For instance, the Airfield, Abandoned Supermarket, and Arctic Research Base monuments have Recyclers that yield 20% more Scrap than normal. However, Recyclers in safe zones, like those in the Bandit Camp and Outpost, produce fewer Scrap than those in other locations like the Launch Site and Light House. Be warned, as you're not the only Rust player who wants the Recyclers for themselves. Other players in the same Rust server would likely have monuments with Recyclers walled, preventing you and your teammates from farming Scrap. So, raid these areas for your benefit. Remember, raiding in Rust must be done with clear strategies and objectives. Running toward enemy bases without a plan is a recipe for disaster. Apart from opening containers and using Recyclers, other methods to farm Scrap in Rust include the following:
  • Use the Metal Detector for a chance to get 7 to 13x Scrap for each yield.
  • Catch specific fish, particularly the Catfish, Salmon, Orange Roughby, and Small Shark, for a chance to get 6x Scrap per fish reeled.
  • Specific missions, like the Boar and Deer Hunt missions from the Hunter, let you earn 100x Scrap per quest completion.
