What Is the Most Expensive Minecraft Trading Card?
Posted on by
Trading cards are becoming more sought after than ever, and Minecraft’s trading cards are no exception. So, today, we take a look at the most expensive Minecraft trading card alongside the potential reasons why this specific card was worth many times its weight in gold.
Minecraft’s officially licensed trading cards are manufactured and sold by Panini, a company most famously known for its sports cards. The Minecraft trading cards themselves facilitate no gameplay and are purely for collection, with many special variants and limited numbered cards. Among the sets released so far, they can include everything from cards for default skins such as Steve to cards for mobs and even specific biomes such as cherry groves.
The most expensive Minecraft trading card was sold on April 14, 2025, for $18,000 USD. An extremely high amount for Minecraft cards that are otherwise nowhere near that cost! So, which earned that price tag? None other than the one-of-one foil parallel Chicken Jockey seen in the image above.
To be clear, many cards are listed at similar prices or even higher, but the one-of-one foil parallel Chicken Jockey is the only card to actually sell at such a price. Those confirmed sales are then what typically set a card’s value.
The foil parallel Chicken Jockey card, which sold for $18,000 USD, was a one-of-one card, meaning it was the only card with that specific serial number and parallel. However, that alone would not be enough for such a high price tag, as many other Minecraft one-of-one foil parallels are selling for nowhere near that much. So, what was different?
One would typically assume a perfect ten grading from a reputable source, such as PSA, or a misprint that made this card even more unique than normal, but this was an ungraded card printed as it was supposed to be, which brings us to an assumption instead. The one-of-one foil parallel Chicken Jockey likely sold for as much as it did thanks to A Minecraft Movie’s famous Chicken Jockey scene.
The sale date lines up with A Minecraft Movie releasing just ten days before, and this would have been around when the “Chicken Jockey” theater chaos was at its peak. As a result, this one-on-one foil parrel Chicken Jockey represents a lot more than just the mob on the card, making it the most expensive Minecraft trading card.
