The second Minecraft Live of 2025 has come to a close, but not without showing us new release dates, game drops, and exciting news for what the rest of the year holds! So, today, we explore everything that was announced in our Minecraft Live Recap September 2025.

The Copper Age Game Drop

Minecraft Copper Age Update Item and Block Showcase Screenshot Releasing September 2, 2025, The Copper Age game drop includes all the exciting snapshot features that have been tested over the past few months, including copper golems, shelves, and copper tools. While the original intention for copper was to be purely decorative, the developers shared that they felt it was time it was made a proper tier in the resource hierarchy. They were also pleasantly surprised by how many creative ways players were using the new shelf blocks, both for inventory loadouts and building. This portion of Minecraft Live ended with a musical animation celebrating Happy Ghasts and the previous game drop, “Chase the Skies.”

Minecraft Live Recap: Dragon Ball Z DLC

Very little of what it will actually entail was revealed, nor was a release date outside of “Coming Soon” displayed.

Coming “later this year,” Mounts of Mayhem will introduce a new mob named the nautilus alongside a new weapon, the spear. However, they were not the only highlights shown off. The long unused zombie horse is officially being added to the game and will spawn with a zombie rider holding a spear. Below, we go over each in more detail.

The Nautilus

Minecraft Live Recap: Nautilus Screenshot Based on the real-world sea creature, the soon-to-arrive nautilus is a passive mob that spawns in any ocean biome. They are tempted, tamed, and bred using pufferfish, and upon placing a saddle upon their back, they can be mounted as well. Riding a nautilus grants the “Breath of the Nautilus” buff, which provides underwater breathing that lasts until the nautilus is dismounted. Additionally, nautilus have a dash ability for small bursts of speed that can be used while riding them. Jokingly, the developers called them the happy ghasts of the sea, and it felt pretty accurate.

Zombie Nautilus

Minecraft Live Recap: Zombie Nautilus Screenshot Nautilus can also spawn as zombies, complete with a drowned rider, making for a new hostile underwater mob. Should the rider spawn with a trident, they became particularly deadly. Few details were given on what the zombie nautilus alone does, but it could be similar to skeleton horses.

Zombie Horse

Minecraft Live Recap: Zombie Horse and Zombie Rider Screenshot Although it has existed in Java Edition for some time, the zombie horse was only accessible via commands. Now with Mounts of Mayhem, the zombie horse will spawn with a zombie rider wielding a spear. Similar to the zombie nautilus, few details were given on what the zombie horse alone does. Perhaps it too will function like skeleton horses.

Nautilus Armor

Minecraft Nautilus Copper Armor Screenshot Like horse armor, nautilus armor appears to include variants for every tier up to diamond. Sadly, it was not shown during the showcase whether they were crafted or not. We expect that it may be new water temple loot.

The Spear

Minecraft Spear Screenshot The spear is a new weapon available for every resource tier, crafted using two sticks and one cobblestone, bar, or diamond. While wielding a spear, two types of attacks can be made. The first is a basic jab, which has a short cooldown. The second is called charge, and it is a temporary stance where ramming into an enemy deals damage alongside other effects, depending on how long it has been active.
  • Charge State 1: Damage, Knockback, & Dismount
  • Charge State 2: Damage & Knockback
  • Charge State 3: Damage
Each of these three charge states is visually indicated by how the spear is being held. The developers described it as the weight of the spear gradually taking its toll. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the spear deals more damage based on your speed and your opponent’s speed. For example, standing still and hitting an incoming player flying with an elytra could very well one-shot them. In the same vein, flying with an elytra and hitting an enemy with a spear will deal an abundance of damage as well.
