Mellow

  • Type: Shaders
  • Version: 1.21.6
  • Mod Link: CurseForge
For Java Edition players, Vibrant Visuals is still a ways away, but that is no reason to fall into dismay! Plenty of amazing shaders, such as Mellow by TheCMK, are already available for use on 1.21.6. And, in the case of Mellow, it captures much of Vibrant visuals’ beauty with great performance still being paramount to its design. A perfect shader for bringing vanilla Minecraft 1.21.6 to life!

Falling Tree

  • Type: Quality of Life
  • Version: 1.21.6
  • Mod Link: CurseForge
Cutting trees in Minecraft can sometimes be tedious, if not immersion-breaking, so Rakambda has created a solution with Falling Tree that does just as its name describes. Break one block, and the tree comes falling down! Those using Falling Tree can select from a variety of falling types and animations, and should it be desired, things can be taken a step further with a second mod that adds Falling Tree enchantments.

Dungeons and Taverns

  • Type: Structures / Enchantments Mod
  • Version: 1.21.6
  • Mod Link: CurseForge
Minecraft offers a vast world with plenty to explore, but that does not mean there shouldn’t be any more! Dungeons and Taverns by Nova_Wostra adds plenty of new vanilla-friendly structures and dungeons to the overworld and nether, alongside new enchantments that can be found within them. Just be ready to take on the hostile mobs that protect them, as their riches won’t be given up so easily.

Medieval Buildings Mod Series

  • Type: Structures
  • Version: 1.21.6
  • Mod Link: CurseForge
If one structure mod wasn’t enough, how about another few to spruce things up even more? The Medieval Buildings mod series comes in three parts, complete with one for the overworld, nether, and end. All of them use vanilla blocks, items, and mobs and are beautifully designed with immersion in mind. However, none of that is to suggest there aren’t any secrets or loot to find.

Nears

  • Type: Farming / Food
  • Version: 1.21.6
  • Mod Link: CurseForge
With the addition of the mod Nears by DigitalPear_11, the nether’s culinary scene springs to life with new food that likely has a bit of spice. These include cinder grain from basalt deltas, soul berries from soul sand valleys, faar from warped fungus trees, and nears which hang from the ceilings of crimson forests. Most have extra uses alongside simply being a source of food, and all of them can be cultivated in the overworld so that your farm can expand too.

DarkQuesting

  • Mod Link: CurseForge
Goals are always a great thing to have, which is why adding a few extra can surely only add to the experience at hand! DarkQuesting from the Dark mod series adds a new page of advancements to complete with quests that reward an abundance of XP. Each is unique and rewards progression as well as challenges like defeating the warden.

Xaero’s Minimap

  • Author: Xaero96
  • Type: UI / Minimap
  • Version: 1.21.6
  • Mod Link: CurseForge
Minimaps are one of the most convenient mods to have installed, and few offer one better than Xaero96 with their Xaero’s Minimap mod. It can create waypoints, display nearby players and mobs, and even be customized to be the perfect fit for your Minecraft UI. And the best part? Xaero’s Minimap is entirely client-side, meaning it can be used anywhere at any time. For those who worry that this mod may be considered cheating, Xaero96 has even gone so far as to create a second fair-play version that disables most settings that would be advantageous on a PVP server. We can not recommend this great mod enough!

Macaw Mod Series

  • Type: Blocks / Building
  • Version: 1.21.6
  • Mod Link: CurseForge
With a larger palette, there is more room for creativity. A saying that remains true in Minecraft when it comes to block variety. So, what better way to expand that palette than with mods? Sketch_macaw’s “Macaw” mod series offers over ten mods worth of new blocks and items, both decorative and with function. A few popular examples are Macaw’s Bridges, which adds rope bridges to Minecraft, Macaw’s Furniture, and Macaw’s Roofs, which adds actual roof options.

Waystones

  • Type: Teleportation
  • Version: 1.21.6
  • Mod Link: CurseForge
Exploring can get tiresome when return trips to base take forever, even on a nether highway, but Waystones by BlayTheNinth solves that problem instantly with a creative and non-lore-breaking solution in the form of waystones. These randomly generated pillars can be found in villages and the wilderness across the overworld, and attuning to them allows players to teleport between them. Additionally, the mod adds a few new items, such as warp plates and warp scrolls, which can also be used to travel between attuned waystones. And, in the late game, waystones themselves can also be crafted. A must-have for any adventure modpack.

Mouse Tweaks

  • Type: Quality of Life
  • Version: 1.21.6
  • Mod Link: CurseForge
Finally, we have one of Minecraft’s oldest and most downloaded mods, which is still updated to this day. Mouse Tweaks by YaLTeR is entirely client-side and adds more control over inventory management with new mouse-based shortcuts for crafting, organization, and even looting. The convenience is so great that some players even refuse to play without it, which also explains (at least in part) the stunning 339,043,526 downloads as of writing.
