Hytale Game Modes Guide: Adventure, Creative, & More
Posted on by
Upon its completion, Hytale will offer three unique game modes. However, recent announcements have introduced a fourth, and not all of them will be available right away. So, today, we explore Hytale’s three gamemodes alongside the temporary fourth in our Hytale Gamemode Guide.
Game modes are distinct configurations of gameplay within the same game. Some examples of this include capture-the-flag versus free-for-all in player-versus-player games or slightly altered rule sets, such as hardcore mode in Minecraft. In the context of Hytale, the gamemodes are exploration mode, adventure mode, creative mode, and competitive multiplayer.
Adventure mode is Hytale’s sandbox RPG experience, containing both survival aspects and a curated narrative. Players who select it will find themselves dropped into the world of Orbis where they must gather, craft, and build to establish themselves before venturing in search of NPCs, dungeons, and bosses to progress the story. This gamemode is not yet available.
Exploration mode contains the core mechanics of adventure mode, offering combat, looting, farming, building, and a randomly generated world. It exists temporarily as a playtest while the promised and missing features of adventure mode are developed. The developers did not want to call this early build “adventure mode” as it is still far from their desired vision, hence the new name.
Creative mode drops players into a randomly generated world, ready to be molded to their liking. Flight is enabled, players can’t be killed, and everyone has unlimited resources. Additionally, creative mode contains many unique tools that allow players to shape the world around them by more than just their hands. Some examples include a brush tool that can paint everything from blocks to grassy paths and even ruins, the ability to copy and paste, and customizable models.
The final game mode of Hytale is competitive multiplayer, which in and of itself contains many smaller game modes, or rather, minigames. Players who select this gamemode will be brought to a city in the sky called The Capital, where players can meet up and queue for minigames. While these specific minigames are not yet known, the developers have stated that competitive multiplayer will eventually have its own dedicated development team. Competitive multiplayer is not yet available.
