GTA 6: Release Date, New Content, Features, Trailers, & More
Posted on by
The “we got this thing before GTA 6” meme is dead, as developer Rockstar Games sets up the stage for the highly anticipated release of the next title in the Grand Theft Auto series. Avid fans are now waiting for its eventful release, which comes with new content, features, and next-generation graphics. So, here’s what we know about GTA 6, including its release date, platforms, and more!
Initially, the developer teased GTA 6 in a December 2023 trailer, mentioning that it would be released in 2025. However, a recent trailer gives players a concrete GTA 6 release date, May 26, 2026.
Watch this new trailer for GTA 6, announcing the game’s release date, below:
GTA 6 Release Date

GTA 6 Platforms
At the time of writing, GTA 6 will be released for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, the graphics and performance requirements for the game to run as smoothly as possible may also play roles in the game not releasing on previous-generation consoles. That means that PS4, Xbox One, and other gaming systems with insufficient hardware and software capabilities might miss out on the sixth iteration of this popular open-world action-adventure title. Additionally, no official word about GTA 6’s PC release date at the time of writing. Still, it's safe to hypothesize that its PC version should be released by roughly two years after its console launch. This period should suffice, seeing that GTA 5 PC launch was on April 14, 2015, and its PS3 and Xbox 360 release date was September 17, 2013.Location: Return to Vice City
In GTA 6, players return to Vice City, the main region in GTA 3. Although GTA 3 took place in 1986, this time it seems that it has a modern-day setting. The trailer, which you can see above, gives players a glimpse of what the city looks like currently. Despite the updates, certain players may find some familiar landmarks, such as Starfish Island. Other expected areas in GTA 6 include the following:- Mount Kalaga National Park
- Port Gellhorn
- Grassrivers
- Leonida Keys
- Ocean Beach
- Little Cuba
- Tisha-Wocka Flea Market
New Characters
Gone are the days of Claude, the protagonist in GTA 3: Vice City, as we're introduced to a new Bonnie and Clyde-like pair in GTA 6. The female lead, Lucia Caminos, is seen wearing prison clothing, since she has already served some time behind bars. Nonetheless, she and her partner, Jason Duval, share a deep bond, remaining true to each other while aiming to reach the top spots of Vice City’s underground kingdom. Apart from the main protagonists, the trailer also introduces other characters who are wrapped up in Lucia and Jason's world. These NPCs include the following:- Cal Hampton, Jason’s friend
- Boobie Ike, a local Vice City legend
- Dre’Quan Priest, a leader in the game’s music industry
- Real Dimez and Bae-Luxe, rappers with an unyielding social media presence
- Raul Bautista, a seasoned bank robber looking for the biggest stakes
- Brian Heder, a classic narcotic runner who knows the industry's ins and outs like the back of his hand
