Core Keeper: How to Get & Use a Mysterious Idol
Posted on by
In the world of Core Keeper, mysteries are everywhere. Powerful objects, tools, and gear can be found around every corner and, sometimes, within enormous bosses. One such boss-bound item in Core Keeper is the Mysterious Idol. This is actually a summoning object for an NPC, and we'll tell you exactly which boss is holding onto it down below.
Early on in Core Keeper, you won't be fighting too many ultra-powerful bosses. Nevertheless, one should use caution when taking on Ghorm the Devourer. Luckily, you don't need a specific item to summon good, old Ghorm. Instead, this early-game boss wanders around the Clay Caves and Forgotten Ruins. All you have to do is wander around yourself until you find the beast. Once you've found one of its preferred biomes, you can expect to see Ghorm around 190-210 tiles away from the Core.
Ghorm the Devourer is hard to miss, since it's an enormous worm. Again, as one of the earlier bosses, Ghorm isn't too difficult. In fact, as you whittle down its health, Ghorm won't attack you directly until it has 80% of its health remaining. Utilize as many bombs and ranged attacks as you can, and Ghorm should go down in no time. Once you defeat it, you have a guaranteed drop of a Mysterious Idol and plenty of other goodies.
With the Mysterious Idol in hand, you can take it back to your base. Once you're there, plop it down into a room with four walls, a door, a bed, and presto! The Cloaked Merchant NPC (sometimes referred to as the Caveling Merchant) will appear and begin to peddle their wares. When you first summon them, they have a fairly limited stock that consists almost entirely of boss summoning idols. However, you'll unlock even more of their wares after the Core has been activated. Additionally, like other shopkeepers, the Cloaked Merchant's inventory will restock after 30 minutes.
Here's everything you can purchase from this friendly little shopkeeper:
