Will Hytale Have Microtransactions?
Posted on by
In modern gaming, it is not usually a question of whether a game will have microtransactions but rather how many. The Hytale development team has thankfully been very open with their plans, so today, we answer “Will Hytale Have Microtransactions?”
Microtransactions are in-game purchases using real money for virtual cosmetics, content, or advantages. Everything from video game DLC to the Fortnite battle pass would fall under its definition. And while microtransactions are more common to see in free to play games, many pay to play games have them as well. Some examples of games with microtransactions are Minecraft Bedrock Edition, Fortnite, and League of Legends.
During the initial early access release, Hytale is confirmed not to have official microtransactions. However, mods will be available in-game, and third-party developers are able to set a price for them. The Hytale developers were also open about the fact that they would likely offer purchasable cosmetics down the line when multiplayer minigames are added. But, under no circumstance, would they be pay-to-win or offer unfair advantages.
While the specifics of future monetization in Hytale are not yet set in stone, we can likely expect the capital and its multiplayer minigame microtransactions to function much like Hypixel does now. Things such as MVP rankings, cosmetic holiday bundles, and boosters for non-premium currencies. Hypixel also offers player housing that can be purchased, which would fit perfectly within Hytale’s capital, a floating city in the sky.
Overall, microtransactions are not exactly the most exciting thing to see, but Hypixel, at the very least, provides proof that the Hytale developers will stick to their word when it comes to no pay-to-win monetization. It also shows that there will be many free cosmetics to look forward to as well.
