10: Stone Quarry
Starting us off at number ten, we have Stone Quarry by DArkHekRoMaNT. This
nifty mod does as its name describes, adding quarries to Vintage Story for the collection of rocks as stone slabs. Those slabs can then be processed into rocks, stones, bricks, or polished rock. Additionally, the mod adds the ability to create gravel and muddy gravel via rubble storage, which crushes up the items placed within.

Nothing is sweeter than honey, except maybe more of it! From Golden Combs by Vinter_Nacht and CrimsonSkye expands beekeeping, making the feature more in-depth, rewarding, and tastier than ever before. Plenty of new recipes are added for both the storing of honey and the creation of hives for bees to call home. These include Ceramic Hives and tall wooden Langstroth Hives that can be customized with over 100 different color combinations.
Further yet, beehives will provide a boost to drops from nearby
fruit trees, berries, and crops so long as the temperature is kept within a comfortable range. Both features are customizable to one’s liking in the mod’s setting alongside honey generation rates. It’s easy to see why there is so much
buzz around this mod!
8: Player Corpse
Returning to claim the eighth spot on our list is none other than DArkHekRoMaNT. This time with a mod called Player Corpse that adds a feature of
unparalleled convenience. When a player dies, a skeleton gets left behind with all the loot they would have otherwise lost stored within. This provides a chance for the owner to collect their items at a later time by following the waypoint created by the mod.
7: Pet AI
Pet AI by Gerste may do nothing on its own, but when paired with mods from the list below, it adds the ability to tame animals outside those the game would normally allow. Only one from the list is required for Pet AI to work, so pick your favorite or simply add them all. Regardless of the choice, Pet AI’s framework and masterfully crafted AI will bring your furry friends to life.

Vintage Story’s hammer and chisel is already a builder’s dream come true, but with QP’s Chisel Tools by QPTech they can be taken to an even higher level of convenience and depth that most would have never thought to include. A few examples among the many features are copy, pasting, and saving designs, chisel paint tools that save countless clicks, functional chiseled chests and ladders, and even multiblock doors.
If you
enjoy building, we truly can not recommend QP’s Chisel Tools enough. Just be warned, one try, and it becomes very hard to play Vintage Story without it.

Sometimes, all a survival game needs is the slightest pinch of RPG, and with XSkills by Xandu, Vintage Story fans can now experience exactly what that means! The mod adds a classic level-based progression system, providing ability points along the way that can be spent to improve unique character abilities and perks.
The skills XSkills includes are Survival, Farming, Digging, Forestry, Mining, Husbandry, Combat, Metalworking, Pottery, Cooking, and Temporal Adaptation. And within each are multiple abilities that help with your favorite aspects of the game.
4: Carry On
Number four on our list is another
quality of life mod, but again, not one you will not want to miss! Carry On by NerdScurvy adds the ability to pick up and carry certain blocks both in hand and on your back. That may not seem like much until realizing that certain storage items can now also act as backpacks. There are also other uses, such as when you have to move a full storage container from one room or base to the next. Carry On saves a lot of time.
3: Expanded Foods & A Culinary Artillery
Expanded Foods by L33tmaan and A Culinary Artillery by L33tmaan and Pursec are technically two separate mods, but they combine so well that we felt it best to include them as one. Expanded Foods does exactly as its name describes, adding new ingredients and meals, while A Culinary Artillery expands the kitchen, providing all the tools necessary for the new food’s creation. If you are a fan of cooking or eating, these mods are a must-try.

Better Ruins by NiclAss, Bellcross, Sirayne, Dampus, yapludepatte, ifoz, and FemurSnapper69 is a joint effort to add an abundance of new structures to world generation, ranging from small villages to decaying medieval cities.
And don’t go thinking those structures are empty, either! New recipes hide within alongside an abundance of loot, so let the crafting begin. And, for an even better Better Ruins experience, the developers recommend adding
Better Traders, Ancient Dungeons, and
RLMoonSun as well.
1: Primitive Survival
Finally, at number one of the
most downloaded Vintage Story mods of all time is Primitive Survival by SpearAndFang. This exciting mod began with the goal of giving the early game a much more realistic survival experience inspired by shows like Naked and Afraid. And, over the years, it has done just that by adding countless new features, blueprints, and items. Be ready to fish, trap, and farm like a true survivor until more advanced options are obtained.
However, don’t expect the mod to be done just because you have left early game. Primitive Survival has some
explosive late game secrets ready to be explored as well. SpearAndFang has truly gone above and beyond and now has a mod so large that one could even call it an expansion. Expanded Foods & A Culinary Artillery from earlier in our list are also recommended by the developer to further enhance the Primitive Survival experience.
