Valheim Deep North Biome Guide: Location, All Resources, Enemies, POIs, Important Items, & More
Posted on by
Without a doubt, the biggest and most exciting part of the Valheim 1.0 update is the addition of the game's newest biome: the Deep North. This frozen tundra is filled with new enemies, resources, and challenges. If you're looking for all the info on what the Deep North holds, including how to find it in your world, our guide is your perfect, frigid tour guide. So let's get started!
Of course, before you can start plundering the Deep North for its riches, you need to find it! In Valheim, biome locations aren't exact because of procedural generation. However, you can always find the Deep North at the northernmost reaches of your world.
But first, you need to make sure you have a ship. If you do, you can set sail toward due north. You'll have to navigate your way through the ocean and skirt around plenty of islands. You shouldn't have any trouble knowing that you're getting close to the Deep North, as you'll see more floating sheets of ice in the water, and the environment will become more snowy. Eventually, you'll make landfall on the Deep North's frozen shores.
There is plenty to discover in the Deep North of Valheim, but there are some locations that you'll be visiting more than others. These points of interest have some of the most valuable resources and/or challenges to discover.

How to Find the Deep North
Of course, before you can start plundering the Deep North for its riches, you need to find it! In Valheim, biome locations aren't exact because of procedural generation. However, you can always find the Deep North at the northernmost reaches of your world.

Key Points of Interest (POIs) in the Deep North
There is plenty to discover in the Deep North of Valheim, but there are some locations that you'll be visiting more than others. These points of interest have some of the most valuable resources and/or challenges to discover.
The Winding Tunnels
One location you'll regularly return to in the Deep North is the Winding Tunnels dungeon. This network of chambers underground can have entrances all over the Deep North. Deep pits or even certain buildings can have holes that lead into them. Inside, you'll find plenty of resources and challenging enemies. That is, if you can successfully navigate the tunnels' many twists and turns. Make sure you go in with a reliable light source. Additionally, leaving something to mark the areas you've already traveled through can make returning to the surface much easier. The biggest appeal of the Winding Tunnels is finding various molds. These can be molds for weapons or armor, which can be crafted into casts. With casts, you can create some of the game's most hard-to-get gear for additional bragging rights among friends and some powerful buffs.Mörkhalla
Speaking of molds, one mold you can find by defeating enemies is the Mould: Intricate Key, namely from Eyeless Ones (50% drop rate) and Elakings (20% drop rate). If you craft this key, first by making the Cast: Intricate Key with the mold and 5x Bloodgold at a level 4 Black Forge, then processing it with Liquid Frost in a Frost Foundry, or get lucky enough to loot its finished form from a Hexen, you can use it to open and enter Mörkhalla. This massive, towering dungeon spawns randomly within the Deep North, and it's locked unless you have that key. Once you find Mörkhalla and enter, you'll have to work your way from the tower's top to its bottom. Along the way, you'll need to do some tricky platforming, loot some chests, and fight plenty of the Deep North's nastiest beasts. If you make it to the bottom, you can smash the Malicious Ice. Doing this will cause a Jotun Invasion to take place in your world. You can see it marked on your map, and completing the event will reward you with Malicious Blood, which is a necessary ingredient for summoning the Deep North's final boss Kall Fimbulbringer. You'll need 3x Malicious Blood to summon Kall, which means you also must defeat 3 Jotun Invasions on your map.Ancient Altars
Finally, if you're hoping to create the strongest weapons that the realm of Valheim has ever seen, you'll need some Frostfire or Thunderblood Essence. These magical resources are only dropped by Fallen Warriors, and these warriors can only be found at Ancient Altars. Like many things in Valheim, these altars don't have a designated spawn point. They'll appear randomly throughout the Deep North, but they are in a fixed location from the moment your game world is created. When you do happen to find one, you can summon as many Fallen Warriors as you like for an offering of three Memorial Coal per warrior. All Resources Found in the Deep North
