Terraria Cross Necklace Guide: How to Get, Uses, & more
Posted on by
Entering Terraria’s Hardmode raises the importance of survival to the next level. Among the challenging underground layers is a rare find that can help significantly improve a player’s ability to survive. Called the Cross Necklace, this accessory turns relentless assaults into manageable rhythms. So, keep reading to learn how to get the Cross Necklace in Terraria and its various uses.
Introduced in Version 1.1, the Cross Necklace is an exclusive loot that only drops from the Mimic, a Hardmode enemy that disguises itself as a normal treasure chest in Terraria.
Note that killing a Mimic doesn’t guarantee that it drops a Cross Necklace, as you can also acquire other items from it instead, which include the following:
At its core, wearing the Cross Necklace accessory grants the user double the invincibility time after getting hit. Note that the base invincibility period after getting hit is about 0.66 seconds. So, this timeframe transforms into roughly 1.33 seconds with the Cross Necklace.
It’s also important to mention that this additional invincibility period only works in PvE. Getting hit by another player in a PvP-enabled multiplayer Terraria server negates this accessory’s effect.
Nonetheless, the Cross Necklace is stackable with other similar effects when used in PvE. Some notable examples include the Black Belt, Brain of Confusion, and Master Ninja Gear. The Holy Protection buff from the Hallowed Armor Set can also increase the invincibility period to about 2 seconds.
This effect is ideal when fighting bosses, such as the Empress of Light, that bombard players with multi-hit skills. It also means that players can exploit its effect to gain near-infinite invincibility frames.
One example is by placing a Slime Statue with a Heart Statue wired to it. Ensure that this setup has a 1-second timer, and it’s in an enclosed space. That way, the spawned Blue Slimes will constantly hit you with 1 damage point while the Heart Statue helps to quickly replenish your health. If done correctly, a boss’s attacks would mostly pass through your character’s near-invulnerable body.
Note: The Cross Necklace can be combined with the Star Cloak at the Tinkerer’s Workshop, creating the Star Veil. This accessory combines the effects of both items, providing the user with an additional free accessory slot.
