Terraria 1.4.5 Update: Release Date, New Content, Patch Notes, & Latest News
Posted on by
Re-Logic, the developing studio for Terraria, once said that the Journey’s End update would be the game’s last major patch. We now know that isn't true, since Terraria 1.4.5 was announced way back in January of 2023.
Originally, the update was supposed to be a small affair. After years of work, however, it has grown much larger. Luckily, we have all the info you need on what to expect when the Terraria 1.4.5 update arrives!
Unfortunately, we still don't have an official release date for Terraria 1.4.5. While this is disappointing, many fans are hopeful that 2025 will finally be the year! Some speculate that the update could arrive on the anniversary of the Terraria release date on May 16. But we just don't know!
The official Terraria team releases State of the Game posts each month, and a release date hasn't been announced. Thankfully, however, we do know a fair amount about what will be included when 1.4.5 finally shows itself!
One thing we do know is that Terraria 1.4.5 will include a crossover with the metroidvania roguelite Dead Cells! This crossover was actually revealed years ago, and the announcement coincided with the reveal that Terraria would be making its way into Dead Cells. When 1.4.5 arrives, it seems the crossover will be heading in the opposite direction!
We don't know what all of this Dead Cells content will include, exactly. However, we do have the image above which gives us a small taste of the Dead Cells flavor and items that will be coming to Terraria! This appears to be a replication of the Prisoner's Quarters from Dead Cells that players return to after falling in battle. Can we expect to see Dead Cells weapons? Dead Cells abilities? Dead Cells characters? Only time will tell!
Generally, you only need to open your preferred game library, and the update should start as soon as it releases. But if that method doesn’t work, you may need to manually update the game.
Follow these steps to manually update Terraria on your PC:
1. Navigate to your Steam library.
2. Right-click on Terraria on the sidebar, and select 'Properties'.
3. Go to the 'Local Files' tab.
4. Click "Verify integrity of game cache".
5. Wait for the update to download and install.
If manually updating your Terraria file doesn't work, you may need to uninstall and reinstall it. You can also follow our update guide if you're running a Terraria server of your own!

Terraria 1.4.5 Patch Notes (All Revealed Features & Changes)
Dead Cells-Themed Items

Shimmer Water Gun
NPCs will soon have Shimmer forms. But instead of manually bringing them to a Shimmer pool, players can use the Shimmer Water Gun. At this point, we don’t know if changing the NPCs’ appearances will also alter their behaviors or the merchandise they sell. Also, we don’t know if this weapon can damage enemies. Still, it’s a fun gimmick to have in the game, and it can provide uniqueness to creative Terraria players who want to showcase their towns.New Transformation Mounts
Want to play Terraria as a bat, rat, or velociraptor? You should be able to when 1.4.5 arrives! These mounts will work similarly to Wolf mount, and it's possible that even more unique mounts could arrive with 1.4.5. However, as we've said above, we simply need to wait for additional information.Radial Buttons
Console and mobile players generally have to go through a series of menus before arriving at their item or option of their choice. Version 1.4.5 reduces that cumbersome task with the introduction of customizable radial buttons! Soon, you can use potions, change weapons, and apply features on the fly!Hints of Crossplay
Back in October of 2023, Re-Logic said that crossplay will one day be available in Terraria. However, at the time, they confirmed that crossplay won't come until after the release of 1.4.5. It has been more than a year since that announcement, however, and it's possible that the studio's work on crossplay functionality has been slotted into the 1.4.5 update. If crossplay doesn't appear with 1.4.5, then we can likely rest easy knowing it will come at a later date!New Music Tracks
Over on Re-Logic's official YouTube channel, you can listen to a new music track. This is actually a new song for the preexisting boss Eater of Worlds. In fact, this song is just one of several new pieces being added to the 1.4.5 update. As revealed in August 2023, we can expect a handful of new tracks that were created by regular Terraria composer Scott Lloyd Shelly. Of course, that was almost two years ago when the update was still planned to be small. Since that time, more than a handful of songs could be added to the soundtrack as part of 1.4.5!Other Hinted Content and Features
After more than two years of community updates, there are loads of little changes and additions that have been revealed to arrive with Terraria 1.4.5. Here is a list detailing some of the more standout features:- A pufferfish pet.
- The ability to leash captured critters to specific locations.
- Improvements to playing Terraria on console and mobile.
- New natural/weather phenomenons.
- New whips with new abilities for summoner players to enjoy.
- Continued support for tModLoader.
- A Palworld crossover, albeit it's unclear if it'll arrive with 1.4.5 or in a future patch.
- A "Film Noir" shader and complementing vanity set dedicated to Frank, a Terraria fan from Rockaway, New Jersey, battling a critical illness.
- Much, much more!
