We've all been there. Your grandpa leaves you a farm, you work hard to plant crops, and crows swoop in. These irritating thieves can make off with your hard-earned produce as you shake your pixelized fist in the air. Luckily, Stardew Valley Scarecrows exist, and they're a handy deterrent for any would-be feathered thieves. We'll show you exactly how to get a Scarecrow, their range, and all available Stardew Valley Rarecrows down below.

Thankfully, you don't have to wait long before you can start using Scarecrows in Stardew Valley. You'll begin the game at Farming Level 1, and one of the only crafting recipes you have at this point is for making a Scarecrow. Here are all of the ingredients you'll need:
  • Coal: 1
  • Fiber: 20
  • Wood: 50
That's all there is to it! Once you've built your crops a bodyguard, simply place the Scarecrow wherever you like on an empty tile. It's worth remembering that Scarecrows aren't needed for any crop grown from Wild Seeds. Everything else, however, is fair game to wild Crows. Before planting it in the ground, let's discuss the Stardew Valley Scarecrow range. You can expect the surrounding 249 spaces to be protected from any and all avian threats. This is eight spaces to the north, south, east, and west, with roughly six spaces to the northeast, northwest, southeast, and southwest. At the apex of its north, south, east, and west borders, a Scarecrow's sphere of influence spans nine spaces. The image above shows which spaces would be protected by a Scarecrow for each of the growing plants.

Stardew Valley Rarecrows: How to Get & All Prices

Despite their wildly different appearances, all Rarecrows work exactly the same as normal scarecrows. The only exception is the Alien Scarecrow. This one can wear whatever hat you choose for its little, bald head. Additionally, each Rarecrow is obtained through different methods outlined below. If you manage to collect each one of the Rarecrows, you'll receive a letter in the mail. This will give you the ability to craft a Deluxe Scarecrow.
