Minecraft Nautilus Mob Guide: Zombie Nautilus, Nautilus Taming, & More
Posted on by
A prehistoric creature has returned to the sea, complete with taming, breeding, and a zombie variant that will carry drowned from the darkest depths. So, today, we explore the nautilus mob and zombie nautilus alongside their features, armor, and favorite food too.
Based on the real-world sea creature, the nautilus mob can be found in any ocean biome, swimming just above the ocean’s floor. Their large shells are white and orange, matching their orange-colored bodies, making them decently easy to spot as well. Nautilus mobs are passive and can be led with a lead.
Taming a nautilus requires pufferfish, but outside of that, there are no special steps. Once hearts appear, indicating it is tamed, two can be bred using any type of fish or a bucket of fish. Successfully breeding nautilus mobs produces a baby nautilus.
Tamed nautilus mobs can also be ridden after placing a saddle upon their shells. They go wherever the player guides and are fast, with the ability to dash on demand, allowing for greater ocean exploration. Additionally, riding a nautilus grants the “Breath of the Nautilus” status effect, which provides water breathing until the nautilus is dismounted.
As of writing, the only confirmed details about nautilus armor are that it functions much like horse armor and has a variant for each resource tier up to diamond. It is speculated that nautilus armor will be added to the loot tables of ocean monuments, ocean ruins, and sunken ships.
The zombie nautilus is a hostile mob that spawns in ocean biomes with a drowned riding upon its back. The drowned will guide the zombie nautilus towards players, allowing for a rapid approach and subsequent attack. Should the drowned rider spawn with a trident as well, they become an extremely dangerous combination that is hard to escape.
At the time of writing, little is known about how a zombie nautilus will behave once its rider is defeated. It is entirely possible that they will remain hostile, but they could also end up acting like skeleton horses. As soon as it is confirmed in the next snapshot, we will have it updated here.
