Enjoying your adventures through the wild and untamed world, Hytale? There are plenty of forgotten mysteries to uncover and creatures to meet or defeat, but getting around can take a while in adventure mode. What you need is a mount! We have all the info you need on how to use mounts in Hytale so that you can speed up your overworld traversal.

Hytale Mounts Guide: How to Use Mounts & All Ridable Creatures

Hytale Ram Mount screenshot Unfortunately, at this point, Hytale is in early access. Naturally, this means that the game isn't feature-complete yet. One of the features that isn't quite finished is mounts. This means that you cannot mount a creature, saddle it up with any gear, or have it as a permanent companion. However, you can ride certain animals in Hytale even in early access! Rams, Horses, and Skeleton Horses are all currently usable as mounts in Hytale. The downside is that these creatures will all shun you and head for the hills as soon as you dismount. Additionally, they will try to attack you if you get too close. You might even get a swift kick as soon as you dismount! This means you'll need to trap them in pens if you intend to regularly ride them as mounts.

How to "Tame" Horses in Hytale

In the current state of Hytale, no animals can be truly tamed. Fortunately, there is a trick you can use to keep horses from running away even in the game's early access state. Horses will stop running away and follow you if you're holding a carrot or a feed bag. If you make sure to equip a carrot before dismounting your horse, you can lure it into an enclosure at your base to keep it from escaping. However, keep in mind that the game being in early access does still mean some bugs appear now and then. Occasionally, horses lured by carrots become unmountable for a short period of time. However, so long as you've built a pen and lured your finicky mount inside, it's not going to run away on you. All of this work to keep your mount from running away might sound like a pain. However, sprinting while on a mount is ludicrously fast. If you want to cover lots of ground at lightning speed, mounts are the way to do it. Hopefully, we don't have to wait too long for the next Hytale update, and hopefully, it will allow mounted creatures to stay friendly once they've been mounted. There are also two other creatures currently in Hytale that might become mounts in the future: Camels and Tetrabirds. You can't mount them in the game's current state, but it's not too far-fetched to see them becoming additional rideable creatures in the future. The Hytale development team might add brand new creatures as mounts in the future as well!
