Across the overworld, there are structures left by builders unknown, but usually they are ancient and clearly from times before our own. Yet, with the addition of abandoned camps, we now have abandoned structures that are recent. Was it just villagers and pillagers, or was it someone new to the lore? Today, we explore the answer to that and more in “What are Minecraft Abandoned Camps?”

The gameplay answer to this question is a new generative structure that takes the form of a small decaying camp. It is not exclusive to any one biome and can currently generate in most common biomes as well as in some rare biomes such as cherry groves and pale gardens. The camp itself always includes a tent made of wool stairs, some storage in the form of either barrels or chest blocks, and a campfire. Sometimes cushions and straw beds can also be found. Beyond that, the variants number in the hundreds, with some including hidden copper chests.

Who Made the Minecraft Abandoned Camps?

Minecraft Abandoned Camp Screenshot During Minecraft Live, it was specified that the builders of these structures are unknown. But, with how recent they would have been made within lore, the likely answers can be easily narrowed down. The first and most likely culprit would be wandering traders, especially if emeralds are among the possible loot of camps. The second answer could be pillagers, but the camp looks a little too kind for their liking. That is, assuming none of the camps are traps and the developers have just kept quiet about it. Will we find ourselves with another pitfall?
