After over five years in Early Access, Iron Gate Studio’s Viking epic Valheim is finally approaching its inevitable 1.0 launch. Announced at the recent PC Gaming Show 2026, this momentous event introduces new content, features, and improvements, such as the much-awaited Deep North biome. Keep reading to learn what to expect from this inevitable endgame and the rest of the game with its full release.

Valehim 1.0 Update: Release Date, Deep North, & more

Valheim 1 Release Date Iron Gate has announced that the Valheim 1.0 update will be released on September 9th, 2026. This update will officially launch the game, marking its exit from early access. Valheim 1.0 will be available across all available platforms, particularly PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2.

What’s New in the Valheim 1.0 Update?

Deep North
The new Deep North biome is the Valheim 1.0 update’s crowning jewel. As the location’s name implies, players should be able to find this region at the northernmost reaches of the map. Here, feast your eyes on a vast, snowbound region expected to be deadlier than the existing Mountain biome. Expect to trudge through neck-deep snow and slip across frozen lakes while facing giant Gammeltrolls, ancient trolls who migrated north to become primordial giants, and the Elakingar, horned burrowers that resemble Yetis that ambush from underground tunnels, along with other threats. Other content and features Valheim players can expect from the Deep North include the following:
  • New dungeons called the Winding Tunnels
  • New friendly creatures, like seals and moose, the latter of which can be tamed
  • Spirits that provide adventurers with loot
Combat Overhaul, Boss Power Improvements, & Expanded Gear
Valheim 1.0 may also introduce a reworked combat system. At launch, battling Greydwarves, Fulings, and Draugr should feel more refined than dealing with these foes in Early Access. Boss powers might also have improvements. For instance, The Elder might increase chopping/mining damage by 60%, and Eikthyr may reduce stamina usage by roughly the same amount. An expanded gear library would make sense to support these changes. Players should expect to wield new weapons like Nord axes and greatswords, along with a large, yet powerful Frostfire crossbow. Additionally, a grappling hook has been shown in the 1.0 reveal trailer, enabling smoother, safer traversal in the Deep North.
Quality-of-Life (QoL) & Technical Improvements
Living in the world of Valheim will also receive improvements and refinements with the release of Version 1.0. For instance, the build menu will feature new elements, such as a search bar, a favorites list, and a recent crafts browser. Also, crossplay is finally coming to Valheim with the game’s full release. At launch, players from different platforms can band together, prove themselves to Odin, and build the perfect Viking villages without platform restrictions.
