Deep underground is a new mob perfect for minigames or as a pet that looks cute. However, its home is filled with toxic gases, making it hard to get one without needing to puke! Today, we explore the new sulfur slime mob in our Minecraft sulfur cube guide.

What are Sulfur Cubes?

  • Health: 8 Hearts
  • Behavior: Passive
  • Favored Foods: Slime Balls
Sulfur cubes are a passive slime mob exclusive to the sulfur caves biome. They are easily spotted among the warm red and yellow blocks of their home thanks to their very light yellow and nearly white coloring. When encountered, players will find that their behaviour mirrors that of their green and magma cousins, minus the usual hostilities. What makes sulfur cubes unique, however, is their ability to absorb almost any block a player gives them, visibly altering their appearance and placing the slime in an unmoving, damage-immune state. Similar to that of Axolotls, adult sulfur cubes can be picked up with buckets for transport, creating the item Bucket of Sulfur Cube. Leads can also be used, but only when the Minecraft sulfur cube has absorbed a block.

Block Absorption

Minecraft Sulfur Cube Screenshot Sulfur cubes can absorb a single block, either picked up from the ground or given directly to them by a player. Upon doing so, sulfur cubes enter a damage-immune state where players can hit them around like a ball. Where on the body the slime is hit determines the direction it will go, while the damage that would have otherwise been dealt determines the distance. Additionally, the type of block absorbed adds modifiers to the sulfur cube’s ball-like state. Below, all current modifiers have been listed.
  • Log/Wood Blocks: Very Light and Very Bouncy (Rubber Ball)
  • Wool Blocks: Very Light and Slow Falling (Beach Ball)
  • Stone Blocks: Heavy and Slightly Bouncy (Soccer Ball)
  • Metal Blocks: Heavy and Fast Falling (Medicine Ball)
  • Ice Blocks: Slippery and No Bounce (Hockey Puck)
  • Plant/Jelly Blocks: Slightly Slippery, Fast, and Slightly Bouncy (Golf Ball)
  • Mushroom Blocks: Slippery, Slow, and No Bounce (Curling Stone)
  • Soul Sand/Soul Soil Blocks: Very Heavy and No Bounce (Boulder)
  • Honeycomb Block: Sticky (Dart)
  • TNT Block: Ignitable Sulfur Cube (Grenade)
Shears can be used to safely remove any absorbed block from a sulfur cube, with the sole exception of ignited TNT. An ignited sulfur cube explodes after six seconds and dies, leaving no small sulfur cubes behind.

Duplicating a Sulfur Cube

Minecraft Small Sulfur Cubes Screenshot Damaging a sulfur cube that does not have a block absorbed causes it to split into two smaller sulfur cubes, like its green and magma cousins. However, these smaller sulfur cubes are uniquely capable of growing up after 20 minutes. This allows sulfur cubes to be gradually duplicated over time.
