Evokers are one of the most powerful mobs in Minecraft, capable of calling upon magic and summoning vexes. But where do they spawn, and what do they drop? Today, we answer that and more in our Minecraft Evoker Guide.

Finding a Minecraft Evoker

Minecraft Evoker Screenshot In Minecraft, Evokers are found in one of two places. The first is occasionally on the second and third floors of woodland mansions if their specific rooms generate, while the second is during village raids where they can spawn on wave five and up. These raid spawns may also include evokers riding ravagers, making them extra deadly. If an Evoker hasn’t been seen before, they can be told apart from the rest of the illagers by their black robe with a golden trim, unique casting animations, and the fangs they summon to fight from a distance.

Fighting a Minecraft Evoker

Minecraft Evoker Attacking Screenshot Evokers are one of the few mobs in Minecraft capable of using magic to fight the player character and do so in two separate ways. The first is summoning fangs that come up from the ground, biting at their enemies from up to 12 blocks away or in a short radius around the evoker. This attack is telegraphed by the evoker raising their arms in the air as dark grey particles fly from their hands. Summoned fangs deal two hearts of damage on easy difficulty, three on normal difficulty, and four and a half on hard difficulty in Java Edition. If playing Bedrock Edition, the fangs will always be three hearts of damage regardless of the difficulty. In either case, the damage caused by the summoned fangs bypasses the protection enchantment, meaning the damage we previously listed can not be reduced by magical defenses. The second spell an evoker can cast is summoning three vexes, a corrupted form of allay, to fight by their side. Vexes are their own mob, complete with their own health, attacks, and drops. For further details on vexes specifically, please see the page here. This summoning is telegraphed by the evoker raising their arms in the air as light grey particles fly from their hands and can only be done every seventeen seconds. Finally, Evokers who encounter sheep may use a third spell to change the sheep’s color for fun. This is a non-combat spell, but a spell nonetheless.

Loot

  • Emeralds 0-1 (Increased by Looting Enchantment)
  • Ominous Banner (When Wearing an Ominous Banner)
  • Totem of Undying
When an evoker is slain, it will drop one totem of undying, an ominous banner if it was wearing one, and possibly some emeralds. The totem of undying specifically is exclusive to the evoker’s loot table, so it can not be obtained anywhere else. Totems of undying prevent death a single time when held in the off-hand, and grant bonus health to help overcome the challenge that caused it. These are especially valuable in hardcore, where one death ends access to the save.
