Minecraft can be transformed into almost any genre, and horror is no exception. A few mods are all it takes for the blocky adventure to go from a creative endeavor to players repeatedly looking over their shoulder because something is following close behind. So, today, we explore 10 horrifying Minecraft mods that are guaranteed to put even the bravest on edge, including Verity, Weeping Angels, and many more.

10 Horrifying Minecraft Mods: Verity, Dweller, & More

10: Doctor Who’s Weeping Angels

Horrifying Minecraft Mods: Weeping Angels Mod Screenshot Starting off our list is a mod that has been a staple of Minecraft horror for over eight years. Weeping Angels by Jeryn adds the famed Weeping Angels from Doctor Who into Minecraft. An entity that, when watched, looks like a simple crying statue, but one blink and it is suddenly closer than before. Make sure to keep an eye on them! They are terrifyingly fast when no one is looking despite being made of stone.

9: The Boiled One Reimagined

Horrifying Minecraft Mods: The Boiled One Mod Screenshot No horrifying adventure would be complete without a few jump scares, and The Boiled One Reimagined by Hqrvester provides the perfect entity to get the job done. When The Boiled One encounters a player, it follows them until either attacking, despawning, or rapidly sprinting towards them and vanishing. This makes it so anytime someone spots The Boiled One, they never know if a scare is coming. And should any player make the mistake of leading it to their home, they may awake to The Boiled One over their bed without being able to move at all.

8: The Box of Horrors

Horrifying Minecraft Mods: Slenderman Mod Screenshot If one horrifying creature isn’t enough, what about over thirty? The Box of Horrors by Gus adds iconic horror figures from across the internet and traditional media, including Siren Head, Springtrap, Michael Myers, and many more. Each is faithfully recreated to act as their lore would dictate, complete with an accurate loadout of abilities ready for use. Only the most powerful of horror protagonists will make it through this mod alive.

7: Creeping Woods

A significant part of horror is the atmosphere. The sounds, the effects on the mind, and the frightening locations. Creeping Woods by ZCoper focuses on these aspects by introducing unexplainable phenomena to the world, such as moving lights in the distance, haunting ghosts, and hallucinations of varying levels. Further yet, the mod adds ominous structures, such as graveyards, for players to explore alongside some threatening entities that call them home. However, the specifics of those are better left a frightening surprise.

6: The One Who Watches

The One Who Watches by Pixel_Coder adds an extremely strong entity that would rather mentally torture players than engage in direct combat. It follows with audible footsteps, watches from hiding places, and waits for someone to accidentally get too close. To survive, always be watching and stay as far away as possible. Remember, it is the apex predator, not you.

5: The Knocker

Homes are places of comfort and security, but that can quickly change if something evil learns where it is. The Knocker by M_Productions follows players in an attempt to find their base, and once found, begins stalking them. It peers through windows, knocks on doors, and waits until its victims are isolated and alone before attacking. Worst of all, the knocker remembers even if it despawns. Don’t let the knocker follow you.

4: The Mimicer

Minecraft The Mimicer Mod Entity Showcase Complete with an entire lore of its own, The Mimicer by SWKE_ are former players, including Steve, who have had their bodies hijacked by a parasite. They can often be heard yelling out for help, crying, and tempting any who will listen to approach, only for the parasite to reveal its true grotesque form. The only saving grace is that it is found exclusively underground, where the voice of its victims echoes through caves.

3: Minecraft Backrooms Found Footage

Minecraft Backrooms Screenshot Sometimes there are mods so large that they could be a game in and of themselves! This is the case with Minecraft Backrooms Found Footage by SpacePotato, which adds the backrooms as its very own dimension, with custom visuals and shaders. Inside its liminal halls that go on forever, lore-accurate entities may be encountered, and further yet, entrances to lower levels. That’s right! This mod adds not only level 0 but Level 2, Level 324, The Poolrooms, and The Infinite Grass Field as well.

2: From the Fog

Minecraft Herobrine Mod Screenshot A list of horrifying Minecraft mods would be incomplete without Herobrine! From The Fog by LunarEclipseStudios offers a faithful recreation of the original story and masterfully uses the frightening entity to build suspense rather than just outright chasing. Be prepared to see Herobrine out of the corner of your eye alongside small builds he has left behind. Or maybe he was never actually there at all?

1: Verity JE

Finally, we have VarmiteYT’s fan recreation of the Verity mod from the YouTube series “Something is Knocking at Your Door” by ThatMob! Just like in the videos, the mod adds a small yellow smiling ball named Verity that joins anyone who installs it on their Minecraft adventure. Verity can hold conversations, answer questions, and even ask questions of its own, akin to an AI assistant. However, it also hides a very dark secret. If unknown conditions are not fulfilled, Verity may take a new form and hunt the player relentlessly.
