Progressing through the game’s tale also means defeating tower bosses, and your first stop is the Zoe & Grizzbolt duo. Who are Zoe & Grizzbolt in Palworld?

Zoe Rayne is the leader of the Rayne Syndicate, which dominates Pal poaching and other crimes, such as raiding settlements and operating oil rigs. These actions prompt the PIDF, under Marcus Dryden, to defend settlements and monitor rigs. She and her Pal, Grizzbolt, have an inseparable bond that transforms their tenacity into powerful attacks pointed at anyone, including Pal trainers, who dare stop the duo from achieving their goals.

Zoe & Grizzbolt Location in Palworld

The tower wherein Zoe & Grizzbolt reside is located in the starting region, Windswept Hills. This location is northwest of Grassy Behemoth Hills. You can create a pin at coordinates 111, -430 to find the boss tower.

Preparation

Since Zoe & Grizzbolt is generally the first tower boss encounter players face in Palworld, proper preparation is more important than ever, particularly since your gear and Pal choices are currently limited. Start by equipping a shield to help increase survivability, and the variant that’s accessible at this time is the Common Shield. Unlock this item by Level 4 at the Technology Tree and by spending 2x Technology Point. Next, craft the Common Shield using the following items at the Primitive Workbench:

• 10x Paldium Fragment
• 20x Wood
• 20x Stone
• 10x Fiber

Next, craft the Bow using the following materials:

• 30x Wood
• 5x Stone
• 15x Fiber

Using the Bow to attack Zoe & Grizzbolt from afar is often the better choice than attacking at melee range. Doing so allows you to have more time to dodge incoming attacks. Alternatively, unlock the Three Shot Bow by spending 2x Technology Point at the Technology Tree after reaching Level 10. As its name implies, this bow fires three arrows with each attack, tripling your damage output. Craft this weapon using the following resources:

• 50x Wood
• 12x Stone
• 30x Fiber

Don’t forget to equip armor for this fight to further improve survivability. The Cloth Armor should suffice at this point in the game, which you can craft at the Primitive Workbench using 2x Cloth.

Best Pals to Use

Ground-type Pals are your best friends for this boss fight. Some notable early-game options are Gumoss, Rushoar, Fuddler, and Dumud. Dumud, in particular, is a great option to fight Zoe & Grizzbolt in Palworld, as its Partner Skill, Soil Improver, enhances your active Ground Pal’s attack. Aside from using Ground Pals, try to search and team up with one with the Power of Gaia passive skill. This particular skill increases the Pal’s Ground attack damage, improving your team’s DPS.

How to Beat Zoe & Grizzbolt in Palworld

A short cutscene starts upon entering the tower. The boss fight will then start as soon as that scene ends. As with other tower battles, you don’t have to fight Zoe & Grizzbolt separately. Instead, these two bosses share the same health bar. Additionally, Zoe will always be on top of Grizzbolt throughout the entire encounter. Now, this Palworld boss fight between you, your Pals, and Zoe & Grizzbolt might not be as easy as it sounds, especially for newcomers to the game. Despite the boss’ range of attacks, two of them are worth mentioning. First, Zoe & Grizzbolt have an attack called Thunderfist. This move lets Grizzbolt lunge at your position three times. The first two lunges have consistent timing, while the third has a slight delay. It’s best not to attack during this animation to prevent unnecessary losses to your health. The other attack to watch out for is a homing laser. As the move’s name implies, lasers come from Grizzbolt, targeting you. You’ll know when the boss is about to use this move when a targeting indicator appears on your character. Unless you have superb dodging skills, the only way to prevent damage from the lasers is by hiding behind one of the stone pillars around the boss arena. Additionally, here are some tips and tricks to help you get through this boss fight unscathed, or, at least, with as little damage to you and your Pals’ health as possible: Withdraw your Pal if Grizzbolt targets it with the homing laser attack. Doing so should make the boss miss, allowing you to resummon your Pal and prevent unwanted damage to their health bar. Aim for the head. Target Zoe or Grizzbolt’s head when attacking for extra damage. Don’t let your Pals get knocked out. Instead, rotate them when they get low on health, allowing them to slowly recover. With enough patience and perseverance, you should be able to defeat the first boss in Palworld! Then, the game rewards you with Character EXP, Pal EXP, and 5x Ancient Technology Point. Also, defeating Zoe & Grizzbolt in Palworld unlocks the tower as a fast travel point.

Can You Catch Zoe & Grizzbolt?

Prior to the Version 0.1.5.0 Update, some players were able to use a glitch to capture Zoe & Grizzbolt. This exploit was possible by letting PIDF Guards chase you in the tower and have them fight the boss. The presence of the guards causes the glitch, allowing you to throw a Pal Sphere at the boss. Now, attempting to throw a Pal Sphere at Zoe & Grizzbolt during the tower boss fight does nothing. However, it's now possible to have Zoe & Grizzbolt join your ranks by completing three unique missions from Zoe herself, as introduced in the Tides of Terraria Update.
