Now that Valheim 1.0 has arrived, players are free to explore the frostbitten realms of the Deep North. This all-new biome features plenty of freezing details, and it brings some new items along with it. Two of these items are necessary if you want to craft the game's newest armor sets. How to Craft a Frost Foundry & Frost Kiln in Valheim

As is typically the case in Valheim, you'll need to interact with the key ingredients for a Frost Foundry and Frost Kiln to unlock their recipes. You can get both of these recipes by collecting some Frostcore. This is a new resource found solely within the new Deep North biome. Once you've found this freezing new locale, look for deep pits or tunnels leading into the ground. These Winding Tunnels are a dungeon that will lead to some eerie settlements. Here, you'll fight some Elakings and other monsters, but you can also find Frostcore attached to the walls. They appear as glowing blue spheres, and grabbing them should immediately notify you of your newly learned recipes. You'll want to collect plenty of the stuff, as you'll need it for crafting your Frost Foundry and Kiln. When you're back home safe and sound, you can equip your favorite Hammer and start building your new structures. Placing them can be a bit finicky, so make sure you've got a spot with plenty of flat land. Additionally, you can only build a Frost Foundry and Frost Kiln within the proximity of a Workbench. Once they're crafted, all that remains is to load up your Frost Foundry with a cast that you've crafted from some armor molds. These molds can be found in those same Winding Tunnels, so keep an eye out as you're hunting for Frostcore supplies.

How to Fuel a Frost Kiln

Of course, your Frost Foundry cannot work without a power source. To turn your casts into wearable armor, you need to fuel your foundry with Liquid Frost. This is what your Frost Kiln is for, as it turns up to 25 pieces of ice into a nice usable handful of the magical material. Unfortunately, the fuel for a Frost Kiln is ice. That sounds simple enough, and, technically, it isn't too hard to find. As you venture through the Deep North, any surface that's got a particularly icy sheen to it that your character starts to slip and slide on is ice. All you need to do is whack at it with a pickaxe, but it must be a Blackmetal pickaxe. This is the highest-level pickaxe you can create, so it can take some time to acquire. Once you do have the pickaxe, you can chip up some ice, take it back home, and fuel your Frost Kiln to finally fuel your Frost Foundry. Keep in mind that the Frost Kiln burns through ice fairly quickly. You'll need a whole lot of ice if you want to turn multiple casts into usable armor sets.
