Rust: How to Fix World File Mismatch Error
Publicado em por
Silence falls upon a Rust server when the words “World file mismatch” appear. If so, the map refuses to load, leaving players staring at their screens in confusion and wonder. Despite the existence of this error, some potential solutions exist. So, let’s look into how to fix the “World file mismatch” error in Rust as you continue reading.
First, note that the “World file mismatch,” “World file outdated,” or “World cache version mismatch” error appears because of a conflict between the map version on the Rust server and its expected version. This issue often occurs after a Rust update, particularly when developer Facepunch launches a major patch. Otherwise, it may happen if the server has outdated map files or incorrect configurations.
Below are some possible solutions that may remove this error, allowing you to get back into the game sooner rather than later:
How to Fix the World File Mismatch Error in Rust
First, note that the “World file mismatch,” “World file outdated,” or “World cache version mismatch” error appears because of a conflict between the map version on the Rust server and its expected version. This issue often occurs after a Rust update, particularly when developer Facepunch launches a major patch. Otherwise, it may happen if the server has outdated map files or incorrect configurations.
Below are some possible solutions that may remove this error, allowing you to get back into the game sooner rather than later:
Fix #1: Change the Map’s Name
Manually updating the Rust server’s map requires changes to the map’s file name. Ensure that its name is unique, such as adding a V2.0 to it. Failing to do so leaves the original map in the local game files. If so, the client detects a matching map name when the server attempts to restart, resulting in a file-mismatch error. Alternatively, delete the .map file and upload a new one. However, this route can be risky, potentially leading to additional issues. Still, if it works, launching the server should create a new and updated map file, removing the “World file mismatch” error.Fix #2: Ensure the Settings are Correct
Sometimes, fiddling with the Rust server settings may lead to the “World file mismatch” error. If so, ensure the server's files and settings are correct. Here’s a quick rundown of the steps to troubleshoot the map file and settings for a dedicated Rust server:- 1. Ensure that the .map file is in Dropbox. If not, upload the correct file.
- 2. Log in to the BisectHosting Starbase panel.
- 3. Ensure that the Rust server is offline. If not, stop it.
- 4. Navigate to the Startup tab.
- 5. Copy the map download link from Dropbox.
- 6. Toggle on the “Custom Map URL” field, and paste the map download link in the box below it.
- 7. Ensure that the map URL has “dl=1” at the end (without the quotes) instead of “dl=0.”
- 8. Toggle off the Level section.
- 9. Start the server, and check if the problem persists.
Fix #3: Delete Local Rust Files
Apart from deleting the .map file, some files might be conflicting with the Rust server, causing the “World file mismatch” error. If so, here are the steps to refresh the game’s files and potentially solve the problem:- 1. Ensure that Rust and Steam are closed.
- 2. Check Task Manager to ensure these apps aren’t running in the background.
- 3. Navigate to the local Rust files in your system. Assuming the installation path remains unchanged, it should be here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rust\.
- 4. Navigate to the “server” folder, and delete the .sav files.
- 5. Log in to Steam, relaunch Rust, and reconnect to the server to see if the problem persists.
