Finding a Good Location

Like other survival games, your first task in building a base in Don’t Starve Together is to search for a good location. However, the “best” location for a base in The Constant often falls under specific preferences. Nonetheless, here are some more general tips to help you decide the best location for your headquarters:

• Build near the borders of a biome - This choice offers easy access to different resources instead of sticking to one set of biome-specific materials, meaning less travel time for upkeep.
• Build near a Pig King village - Selecting this base location can help protect you from certain dangers while opening trading opportunities.
• Choose the right biome for you - Each biome has unique advantages and disadvantages that will fit different approaches to the game. For example, the Savanna typically has Beefalos but may not offer excellent protection from hostile mobs.

Focusing on the Right Structures

Losing yourself in the many structures to build in Don't Starve Together can be easy. Still, it's a good idea to prioritize certain stations over others. Here are some ideal examples to help kick-start your base's foundation:

Food Production & Base Protection

Walking around The Constant to find food is a dangerous and often inadvisable idea. Tread outside your base in the dark, and Charlie might be waiting for you with her vicious attacks. Instead, aim to build structures that can produce ingredients for you. These structures include Pig Houses (for Meat) and Bird Cages (for Eggs). Additionally, build Pig Houses to spawn Pigs. Note that these aren’t ordinary Pigs since they walk on two legs. Also, spawning these animals can become free labor for the benefit of your base. Feed a Pig some meat, and it’ll become your friend in The Constant. Then, that domesticated Pig can help with certain tasks, such as felling trees for wood. Pigs can also help protect your base against Hound attacks.

Resource Production

Aside from producing food at the base, you can also assemble a resource farm for safe and easy access to certain materials. For instance, transplant about 20x Grass Tuft and Sapling near your base. These plants will grow when fertilized and watered, allowing you to gather their provided loot when needed.
