DayZ Optics Guide: All Scopes, Sights, & Compatible Weapons
Publicado el por
The right optics in DayZ can be the difference between returning to camp with a fresh deer or respawning at the beach. After all, selecting the right optic for your firearm isn’t only about seeing further, as it’s also about matching your preferred survival strategy and playstyle. Here, we cover every available optic in DayZ, including all scopes and sights, as well as the compatible weapons they can go on.
Remember, choosing the right optics in DayZ is a personal decision that should define your preferred combat style, but more often than not, it comes down to what's available on hand and making it work. This list shows all available scopes and sights and the guns they go on, including their variants, particularly those in vanilla servers. While the following tier list is ranked from the lowest to highest in terms of combat efficacy, don’t let the order of choices deter you from choosing the ideal optics suited for your unique playstyle.
As the name suggests, the Mini Sights can be the go-to optics for DayZ players who want more precision with sidearms or compact primary weapons. These optics are compatible with a range of pistols, including the FX-45 and the player-favorite Deagle. Interested users should know that these sights are battery-powered, so running out of power may result in reduced accuracy.
The Kobra Sights are the Russian counterpart to the Baraka. KA-series rifles can do well with this optic equipped. Like its Western cousin, the Kobra Sights features a non-magnifying red dot, but it offers a wider field of view. While it still depends on a 9V battery to function, the wider viewing range allows users to maintain situational awareness at medium distances.
Albeit still suited for Western rifles, the RVN Sights offer a slightly different flavor of the non-magnifying optics variety. In particular, it has an illuminated reticle ideal for players who want to add more light to their next victims. Nonetheless, it doesn’t have variable zoom like its cousins, which may make identifying subjects from a distance more challenging than expected.
The Combat Sights in DayZ are a step up from regular optics. Although it requires a battery to power its non-magnifying red dot, its design promotes a clear, unobtrusive picture of the immediate surroundings. The thin housing promotes optimal peripheral vision, suited to supporting players on DayZ servers that call out environmental reports to their allies.
Arguably, the Handgun Scope is in a class of its own. It’s a small, 2.8x fixed-zoom telescopic sight designed specifically for two sidearms: the Deagle and Longhorn. This optic is typically best for players to effectively use their secondary weapons while waiting for their primary rifles. Still, its niche functionality and narrow field of view leave it short of other options on this list.
Called the Back-up Iron Sights (BUIS), it’s made for the M4 Platform and nothing else. This shortcoming is apparent, as M4-A1-less players who were able to get their hands on this optic may not have a use for it, apart from it being a paperweight. But once attached, it offers sheer reliability by not being over-reliant on batteries to function.
Like the previous entry on this list of DayZ optics, the Baraka Sights are made for Western-standard firearms. However, these optics are ideal for close-quarters combat (CQB), mainly because of their non-magnifying reflex sights. Although it excels in chaotic urban environments, its 9V battery-operated red dot helps increase accuracy, it may not be ideal for the patient player. The design might make the Baraka Sights problematic for campers, as it may create blind spots.
Like the BUIS, the Carry Handle Sights are an exclusive optic for the M4-A1. However, it’s an upgraded version of the standard iron sights, providing a rear aperture that improves viewing and accuracy by boosting the weapon’s zeroing range. Although a purely mechanical upgrade, players may find it easier to use than the standard front sight post, especially in low light.
Introduced in Update 1.28, the Sportpoint Sights play a critical role in fulfilling the gap between red dots and high-magnification scopes. It provides a low yet fixed 2x magnification that provides decent zoom without applying significant tunnel vision commonly found in longer scopes. It also offers a wide field of view, albeit it’s not as sharp as higher-magnification scopes.
Although not as famous as other optics in DayZ, the P1-87-L falls in the middle ground compared to other options. It doesn’t offer standout features, but it’s not as rare as other sights either. Nonetheless, it offers a modest zoom with its fixed zeroing range. Still, this scope can provide strong benefits to accuracy when used in the right hands.
As a side-mounted scope, the 1PN51 Scope is a rare and specialized tool for sniping enemies from afar. This extremely rare optic features a built-in night-vision device, making it an essential partner for nighttime skirmishes. However, its night vision mode is permanent, making it practically unusable during the daytime.
The NV-PVS4 gains the upper hand against the 1PN51, as its night vision mode can be toggled. Nonetheless, the NV-PVS4 is also extremely rare, making its usability exceptional only to survivors who are lucky enough to find it.
The ATOG Scope 6x48 and its 4x32 variant are fixed 6x magnification optics suited for Western-designated marksman rifles. Although it provides decent zoom, some players may find it clunky, making it tougher to use than most. Despite this shortcoming, its illuminated reticle doesn’t require a battery, making it reliable during early-game skirmishes.
Users of the VSS, along with other similar firearms, can do well with the PSO-1-1 Scope attached to their chosen weapons. Take advantage of its built-in rangefinder, which makes it a valuable tool for accurately gauging distances to targets. However, interested users must get used to its unique calibration, as it’s typically made for the slow 9x49mm round.
Despite its lack of unique features, the PU Scope wins the hearts (and guns) of many DayZ survivors with its availability. Players have higher chances of finding this item in the wild than the likes of the NV-PVS4 and 1PN51 Scopes. Although its zoom is lower than that of modern scopes, it’s a reliable piece of glass made for the old-school survivor, especially for someone who’s into using the Mosin-Nagant.
With three variants to choose from, the Marksman Scope offers incredible flexibility. Arguably, its main advantage is the versatility of its variable zoom, allowing its user to dial in the perfect magnification for mid- to long-range shots. While it requires a 9V battery to function, many would reason that it’s one of the best optics in DayZ, particularly for the modern marksman.
The Hunting Scope is seen by many DayZ players as the undisputed king of optics. Its variable zoom with three magnification settings offers significant versatility for dealing with enemies at mid- to long-range. It also doesn’t require a battery to operate, making it dependable in various combat scenarios. However, and true to its name, it’s only compatible with hunting rifles, making it a niche attachment.
