The Rust Naval Update introduced a new area for players to explore, conquer, and loot. Called the Deep Sea, venture into this region where naval prowess meets existential risk. Here, the currents can be treacherous, but the rewards are profound. So, learn how to enter and exit the Deep Sea in Rust, and know what to expect in this map, as you continue reading.

How to Enter & Exit the Deep Sea in Rust

Rust Deep Sea First, it’s important to build a boat to reach the Deep Sea biome. Alternatively, you may search for the tugboat in small or large harbor monuments. The problem with the latter option is that monuments, or at least the areas near them, are often camped by hostels. So, prepare for a fight to enter these high-value locations, and hope to become a proud owner of the tugboat. Alternatively, gather the materials and crafting recipes needed to build your own ship. If you’re having trouble with the preparations, consider forming an alliance with other members of the Rust community on the same server. Next, hop into your marine vessel of choice and travel to any of the edges of the Vanilla Rust map, as long as it has the words “Deep Sea” on it. It should also have a timer, indicating how much time is left before the area despawns. A loading screen should appear upon crossing the map’s boundary. Let the new area load, and you should now be in the new Deep Sea area introduced in the Rust Naval Update. Remember the timer seen earlier? Keep an eye on it even while you’re in the Deep Sea, as it also indicates how much time you have left to explore and loot the region. An alarm sounds when there are 20 minutes in the timer, which should also signal your departure from the Deep Sea. 15 minutes after the alarm blares, radiation fills the area. This anomaly continues to become more potent as time progresses, and failure to exit the Deep Sea will most likely lead to death. So, return to your boat, ship, or marine vessel of your choosing and check the map for the exit. Travel to that area to return to the original Rust map.

Points of Interest (POIs) in the Rust Deep Sea Map

Floating Cities
Think of the floating cities in the Deep Sea region of Rust as places of rest and relaxation. Here, you can check and restock supplies and plan your adventures ahead. These locations also allow players to harvest fresh fish to help reduce hunger and starvation while exploring this region. Otherwise, spend your Scraps in the Deep Deck Casino.
The Ghost(?) Ship
Sometimes, you may come across ships floating on water with seemingly no one in them. Don’t be fooled, as hostile scientists guard the vessel. Deal with these enemies, and claim the loot from within. Some Ghost Ships may also have locked crates containing even more valuable items.
Small Islands
Several small islands can spawn in the Deep Sea. However, like the Ghost Ships, these locations are also littered with scientists. So, deal with these hostiles before rewarding yourself with loot.
Enemy Boats
Aside from other players in the Rust server roaming around the Deep Sea region, you may also find some boats patrolling the area. These marine vessels come in two variants: PT and RHIBs. The former generally has two turrets, while the latter might not have deployed weaponry. These boats will have hostiles and will attack you on sight, regardless of the type of boat they’re using.
