The mounts of mayhem update introduces two new mobs to the list of Minecraft’s zombies, bringing the total number up to eight. So, today, we explore every zombie officially added to date, including the Zombie Nautilus and Zombie Horse, in our Mounts of Mayhem zombie guide.

Mounts of Mayhem Zombie Guide: All Zombies

Zombie

• Health: 10 Hearts
• Base Damage: 1.25/1.5/2.25 Hearts (Easy/Normal/Hard)
• Spawn Biomes: Overworld
• Loot: Rotten Flesh, Iron Ingot, Carrot, Potato, Baked Potato, Zombie Head, Lava Chicken Music Disc

The basic Minecraft zombie with the appearance of a dark green Steve can spawn anywhere in the overworld, so long as there is a light level of 0. They walk slowly towards the player to attack in melee and can even break down doors should a player be hidden behind one. Occasionally, zombies can spawn with armor and weapons as well, altering the damage they deal and the difficulty of defeating them. Helmets will even prevent them from burning in the sun, which is otherwise a normal trait of Minecraft zombies. Any extra items they spawn with are included among their loot table, but be careful because other zombies can pick up dropped weapons and armor as well. If spawned as a baby rather than an adult, zombies gain a few additional powers, including increased speed and the possibility of spawning on a chicken that becomes their mount. They otherwise share all the traits of zombies apart from an increased XP reward. Finally, if an adult or baby zombie finds themselves stuck beneath water, they will turn into a drowned after thirty seconds.

Husk

• Health: 10 Hearts

• Loot: Rotten Flesh, Iron Ingot, Carrot, Potato, Baked Potato

Husks are a variant of zombie exclusive to desert biomes that have a dried-out, mummified appearance and faded clothing. They share all the traits of regular zombies, including the possibility of spawning as babies, but with two very dangerous new powers. The first is immunity to sunlight. This means, unlike regular zombies who burn beneath the sun, husks will continue to attack in daylight as though it were night. The second is an added power to their melee attacks. If struck by a husk, damage is dealt as normal alongside a new hunger debuff, which causes the hunger bar to fall at an increased rate. Finally, if stuck beneath water for thirty seconds, a husk will first turn into a regular zombie before turning into a drowned thirty seconds after that.

Drowned

• Health: 10 Hearts
• Base Damage: 1.25/1.5/2.25 Hearts (Easy/Normal/Hard)
• Spawn Biomes: Oceans, Rivers, Pools of Water (Any Overworld Biome)
• Loot: Rotten Flesh, Copper Ingot

Drowned are a variant of zombie that spawns in ocean and river biomes alongside any overworld body of water with a light level of 0. They have dark blue flesh with slight algae growth on their heads and brown clothing, and like husks, drowned share all the traits of regular zombies, including the possibility of spawning as babies. While they lack any unique powers outside of water breathing, they do have an increased pool of items that they can spawn with more frequently, including nautilus shells, fishing rods, and tridents. Tridents greatly increase a drowned’s melee damage and grant it the ability to throw the trident repeatedly as a ranged attack. The damage numbers for a drowned with an unenchanted trident can be found below:

Zombie Villager

• Health: 10 Hearts
• Base Damage: 1.25/1.5/2.25 Hearts (Easy/Normal/Hard)
• Spawn Biomes: Overworld
• Loot: Rotten Flesh, Iron Ingot, Carrot, Potato, Baked Potato

Zombie villagers have the appearance of a villager with green skin and ragged clothing and are nearly identical to regular zombies in terms of mechanics. The first of the only two differences is how they spawn. When a regular zombie spawns, there is a 5% chance that it will instead spawn as a zombie villager. This chance increases to 20% in old-growth pine taiga biomes. The second difference is that zombie villagers have the very unique feature of being curable. If inflicted with weakness via a splash potion of weakness and fed a golden apple, they will turn back into a villager after a few minutes’ time. Zombies can convert villagers to zombie villagers by killing them, making this trait a great way to get them back. It also provides a discount to future trades.

Zombie Horse

• Health: 12.5 Hearts
• Base Damage: Passive
• Spawn Biomes: Savanna, Plains
• Loot: Rotten Flesh

Zombie horses have existed within Java Edition for quite some time, but were only accessible via commands. They are green horses with black manes and some bones partially visible. As of the Mounts of Mayhem update, they now have a chance to spawn alongside a zombie rider, creating a spear-wielding zombie horseman. The zombie horseman pursues players, attempting to damage them with their spear. Once the zombie rider is defeated, leaving only the zombie horse, the zombie horse becomes passive and can be taken by the player as a mount. They function identically to living horses, minus the ability to breed or be in direct sunlight. Placing horse armor on a zombie horse protects it from the sun.

Zombie Nautilus

• Health: 7.5 Hearts
• Base Damage: 1.25/1.5/2.25
• Spawn Biomes: Oceans
• Loot: Rotten Flesh

Like zombie horses as of Mounts of Mayhem, zombie nautilus spawn only as mounts, but this time for a trident-wielding drowned. They have a pale blue shell covered in algae and dark green flesh. Together with their drowned rider, they form a zombie nautilus jockey and will attempt to pursue the player with both melee and ranged attacks. Once the drowned rider is defeated, they are the same boat as zombie horses, and can be taken by players as a new mount. They function identically to living nautiluses, minus the ability to breed or be in direct sunlight. Placing nautilus armor on a zombie nautilus protects it from the sun.

Zombified Piglin

• Health: 10 Hearts
• Base Damage: 1.75/2.5/3.75 Hearts (Easy/Normal/Hard)
• Spawn Biomes: Nether Wastes, Crimson Forest, Nether Fortress
• Loot: Rotten Flesh, Gold Nugget, Gold Ingot

The overworld isn’t the only place with zombies. In the nether, zombified piglins can spawn in nether wastes and crimson forest biomes alongside nether fortress structures, so long as the light level is 11 or below. They share an appearance with piglins but with lighter pink skin, green rot, and parts of their skeletons visible. Unlike the zombies of the overworld, however, they are not outright hostile and will leave the player alone unless a zombified piglin is damaged. Upon that occurring, they will swarm. Zombified piglins are immune to both fire and lava and do not burn in the sun. While the base damage we have listed above is accurate for their unarmed attacks, zombified piglins have a very high chance to spawn with golden swords. Assuming no enchantments are present, their base sword damage is as follows:

• Base Damage: 2.5/4/6 Hearts (Easy/Normal/Hard)

Zombified piglins also have a small chance to spawn riding a strider while holding a warped fungus on a stick. These strider jockeys will only appear within lava oceans. Finally, zombified piglins have a few special spawn conditions that, while rare, can occur naturally during gameplay. Nether portals in the overworld will occasionally spawn a zombified piglin within it. Should a piglin cross over to the overworld, it will turn into a zombified piglin after 15 seconds. Finally, if a pig is struck by lightning, they turn into a zombified piglin as well.

Zoglin

• Health: 20 Hearts
• Base Damage: 1.25-2.5/1.5-4/2.25-6 Hearts (Easy/Normal/Hard)
• Spawn Biomes: None
• Loot: Rotten Flesh

Zoglins are the only zombies that do not spawn but still exist within Mounts of Mayhem vanilla gameplay. To create a zoglin, a hoglin must be brought to the overworld, where, after 15 seconds, it will become a zoglin. Like zombified piglins, zoglins share an appearance with hoglins but with lighter pink skin, green rot, and parts of their skeletons visible. Zoglins are hostile to just about everything except other zoglins and creepers, including non-living entities like armor stands. However, if put on a lead, they will no longer attack the person leading. Zoglins are immune to fire and lava and the sun does not burn them.
