What Are Dappled Forest Biomes?

Dappled forest biomes are a new cold forest biome coming in Minecraft 26.3, the third game drop of 2026. Inside, it is eternally autumn with orange grass, red bushes, and poplar trees that can have leaves of either red, orange, or yellow. The ground, too, has unique features in the form of abundant fallen trees covered in shelf mushrooms, red leaf litter, and brown mushrooms. Overall, a cozy place to call home.

Where to Find Dappled Forest Biomes

The dappled forest biome generates in cold climates. Those searching will have the most luck checking biomes adjacent to taiga biomes. Sadly, the rarity of this biome is not yet known.

Exclusive Dappled Forest Biome Blocks

Poplar Tree Log

A block of warm grey wood covered in a light brown bark. Poplar tree logs offer a complete warm grey wood set.

Poplar Tree Leaves

Poplar trees can grow to have leaves of either red, orange, or yellow. This likely means that the leaves will be three distinct blocks for players to gather.

Shelf Mushrooms

Initially shown as part of the birch forest concept art in 2021, shelf mushrooms are small wall-mounted blocks that appear on the sides of fallen tree logs. While it is possible that birch forests will get them as well, only dappled forest biomes have been shown to contain them at this time.

Red Shrub

A red shrub variant that retains its color when taken and placed in other biomes.

In dappled forests, all classic farm animals in their cold variants and foxes can spawn during the day. At night, the standard array of hostile mobs spawns instead.
