After months of development, Hytale Chapter 1 is finally getting ready to launch! Hypixel Studios has officially confirmed the Hytale Chapter 1 release date, and there’s plenty of new content on the way. Want to know what you can expect in the update? We've got all the info you need, including its launch timeline, new dungeon, goblins faction, the Rune Ability system, and plenty more. Here are the latest details ahead of Hytale Chapter 1’s arrival!
Hytale Chapter 1 Release Date
There's not much time left, as the official Hytale Chapter 1 release date is Monday, October 12th, 2026.
Hypixel Studios officially announced the date after a few weeks of Chapter 1 content appearing in Hytale’s pre-release builds. As for the exact time that the chapter will become available, Hypixel Studios has not announced an official release time just yet.
What's New in Hytale Chapter 1? (Unofficial Patch Notes)
Chapter 1 is shaping up to be the biggest Hytale update yet. As mentioned above, Hypixel Studios has been gradually introducing pieces of the update through its Update 7 pre-release builds. This has given players a small taste of the systems and content coming with the full release. Just in case you made it this far but don't want to be spoiled on upcoming content, Spoiler Warning: we're about to break it all down below!
New Faction: Goblins
Goblins are at the center of Chapter 1. This new faction brings tons of new enemies, characters, and equipment.
The developers have already introduced several goblin combat roles such as:
- Goblin Scrapper: A light melee fighter that swarms its enemies.
- Goblin Miner: A heavier melee combatant with a powerful leap attack.
- Goblin Guardian: An armored defender that fights with a shield.
- Goblin Lobber: A ranged attacker equipped with explosives.
- Goblin Burner: A ranged enemy that uses a flamethrower.
- Goblin Feastmaster: A powerful elite enemy capable of charging players and calling in reinforcements.
Not every goblin is out for blood, either. Hypixel has shown that friendly goblins will appear as well. Including one that operates a shop!
The latest Update 7 pre-release builds have continued to refine these enemies with new animations, combat behavior, and balance changes. When Chapter 1 arrives, we'll finally get the chance to see them in action ourselves!
The First Handcrafted Dungeon & Boss Fight: The Gobliterator
One of the biggest additions in Chapter 1 will be Hytale's first handcrafted dungeon, which all leads up to an encounter with its deadly boss, The Gobliterator. The dungeon will feature the game's first multi-phase boss encounter, powered by Hytale's Encounter Manager system. The system handles boss phases, enemy waves, and arena changes during an encounter.
The Encounter Manager is particularly interesting for Hytale's future because encounters are created as game content rather than being hard-coded directly into the engine. That means Hypixel can continue building increasingly complex encounters, while modders can use the same underlying systems for their own creations.
The Goblin Breach World Event
Chapter 1 is also introducing a new world event called the Goblin Breach. Once players begin Chapter 1 at the Forgotten Temple, Goblin Breaches can appear in the world as temporary portals. You'll be able to locate them by exploring or checking the world map before stepping through into an unstable fragment of Orbis called Echo of Orbis.
Goblins control these areas, so always enter prepared for a fight. The area also regenerates when you enter, so each visit can have different content to navigate. You'll have to make the most of your time inside, too. The Void will eventually force you back out. This means you'll need to explore, fight enemies, solve puzzles, and collect valuable loot quickly before your time runs dry.
Some of the activities revealed so far include:
- Tracking and trapping predators
- Fighting Void assassins
- Opening treasure chests that trigger enemy waves
- Solving puzzles that block access to certain areas
- Exploring changing environments and searching for loot
The Forgotten Temple will also serve as an ongoing hub for Chapter progression throughout Hytale's Early Access period. Speaking of Chapter progression...
Chapter Progression and Rewards
Hytale Chapter 1 includes a progression interface that gives players objectives to work through throughout the chapter, and completing them rewards cosmetics (including some Goblin-themed offerings!). This interface is a functional roadmap that lays out what you'll need to do and the rewards you'll earn along the way.
New Goblin Gadgets
It wouldn't be a goblin-themed update without some appropriately chaotic technology. Chapter 1 will bring several goblin gadgets, including rocket boots, a mechanical hookshot, a glider, a mining drill, and even a spyglass.
Several of these gadgets have already appeared in the Update 7 pre-release builds, giving players a chance to experiment with them before the official Chapter 1 launch.
The Scrap Glider has also received further changes during pre-release development, while the Hookshot and other equipment have received additional sounds and polish.
Rune Abilities
Combat is getting a major new system with Rune Abilities. Ability Runes will provide you with a base ability, while Modifier Runes can alter how those abilities work. Hypixel has described this system as one designed around experimentation, elemental interactions, environmental effects, and combinations between players.
For example, a Fireball ability can potentially be modified to behave differently, while elemental effects can interact with one another to create even more wacky and potentially powerful effects.
The pre-release builds so far have introduced seven initial Ability Runes:
- Chain Hook - Throws a hook that damages an enemy and pulls them toward you.
- Charged Shot - Channels a frost bolt; damage and slowing effects scale with charge time.
- Enrage - Increases damage dealt and received.
- Fireball - Launches a fireball that explodes upon impact.
- Imbue Poison - Imbues your weapon with poison, causing attacks to apply a stacking poison debuff.
- Ground Slam - Sunders the ground and produces earthen spikes that launch enemies.
- Wind Strike - Imbues your weapon with wind; the next three attacks launch piercing arcs of wind.
Modifier Runes have also started appearing, which directly alter the behavior and effects of compatible Ability Runes, including effects such as:
- Expansion - Increases an Ability Rune's area of effect (AOE) by 100%.
- Extended Duration - Increases an Ability Rune's duration by 2%. (While this seems out of place, this was the number last included in the most recent patch notes.)
- Fork - Splits fired projectiles into additional projectiles; the additional projectiles cannot fork again.
- Ricochet - Causes projectiles to bounce off enemies.
Carryable Objects
Hytale Chapter 1 also introduces another new gameplay system, Carryable Objects. This includes the ability to physically pick up and relocate certain objects like chests and explosive barrels. While this could apply to many more items in the game, for now, only a few carryable items are confirmed.
Real Visual Transparency
Chapter 1 is also bringing an important engine improvement: real transparency. This allows Hytale to support transparent materials such as stained glass and windows, while also allowing transparent portions of entities and NPCs. This has been on the top of many builders' wishlists for a while. Now, we'll have to see what architectural wonders can be woven together to show it off!
Combat Changes
Be prepared for some combat adjustments, as Hytale Chapter 1 arrives with several changes that you'll quickly notice in your first fights.
For starters, melee combat is getting faster, with sword, dagger, mace, and battleaxe attacks now roughly 15% quicker. Attacking will also affect your movement more consistently depending on the weapon. Crossbows have received significant damage reductions. Food and potion use will also change, as taking damage will no longer interrupt consumption, movement penalties while eating or drinking have been reduced, and several food effects have been rebalanced. And finally, non-Elite Chapter 1 enemies can flinch when struck, interrupting their attacks until they temporarily become resistant to further flinching, giving you more opportunities to deal damage without taking damage back.
That means you'll not only be fighting unfamiliar foes in Chapter 1, but you'll also have to get used to how the new combat ebbs and flows.
More Audio, Blocks, and World Improvements
There's also plenty of smaller fixes and additions on the way. Recent Update 7 pre-release builds have added new block sets, goblin decorations, updated gold blocks, additional music, new sounds, and numerous improvements to Hytale's world and combat systems.
The September 24 pre-release update also added a second wave of Chapter 1 content while continuing to polish the systems already introduced. Of course, there will probably be some changes between the content that was added in pre-release updates and how it functions in the Chapter 1 release.
The Gobliterator & Hytale's $15,000 Challenge
New in-game content isn't all you can expect. To celebrate the arrival of Chapter 1, a big community competition is happening as well. Hytale Game Director Simon Collins-Laflamme announced a $15,000 reward for the first streamer to defeat the new Gobliterator boss under a strict set of conditions.
The announced challenge requires the player to defeat the boss while maintaining the following rules (though keep in mind, Simon Collins-Laflamme has indicated we'll get a final, complete ruleset just before Chapter 1 launch - so some of these details may change by the Hytale Chapter 1 release date):
- You must be on Hard Mode
- You must be on Hardcore Mode
- You must be Solo
- You can't use Armor
- You can't use Potions
- You can't use Glitches
- You can only use permitted iron weapons from Exploration Mode
- You must be streaming or recording the attempt so it can be verified
Collins-Laflamme also clarified that the run must be legitimate and cannot use Creative Mode in any way.
What Is Coming After Hytale Chapter 1?
While Hytale Chapter 1 is packed with new content and changes of all kinds, we have also learned about other exciting things coming to the game after Chapter 1 that didn't quite make the cut/timeline for launch.
These include the addition of Minigames, Player Profile Features, a massive Crafting Rework, and Runeforging. While these would've made excellent additions in this chapter, they're exciting to look forward to in future content releases!
