Who says you can't cultivate an underground oasis in Core Keeper? Starting with the Bags & Blasts Update, you can do it with the help of the Trowel. This tool lets you plant seeds and turn barren soil into thriving gardens, boosting accessibility and convenience for players who wish to gather resources without frequently roaming the map. With that, keep reading to learn how to get the Trowel in Core Keeper.

How to Get the Trowel in Core Keeper

Core Keeper Trowel At the time of writing, two Trowels exist in Core Keeper: Garden Trowel and Octarine Garden Trowel. Players can acquire the former by opening chests around the map or killing merchant NPCs. Each use of the Garden Trowel in Core Keeper affects a 2x2-tile area, and players can get this tool relatively early in the game. Nonetheless, it’s possible to get this tool from the following sources:
  • Ancient Chest
  • Copper Chest
  • Iron Chest
  • Large Ancient Crate
As for the Octarine Garden Trowel, it affects a 5x5-tile area per use. However, it requires the Octarine Bench to craft, and this crafting station requires the Scarlet Bench and 50x Coral Wood Plank, 20x Scarlet Bar, and 30x Octarine Bar to make. With the Octarine Bench placed, interact with it, and use 11x Coral Wood and 11x Octarine Bar to craft the Octarine Garden Trowel. Core Keeper players can farm Coral Wood by creating a Coral Wood Seed farm. Alternatively, dig up Beach Digging Spots to get this material. As for the Octarine Bar, players must use Octarine Ore at the Smelter Kiln. You can get this type of ore in the Sunken Sea biome, particularly when mining shiny areas embedded in Beach Blocks.

Using the Trowel

Core Keeper Farming As mentioned earlier, the Trowel in Core Keeper is an essential farming tool, as players must till the ground using a Hoe. Note that some types of ground can’t be tilled. Next, place seeds in your inventory and equip the Garden Trowel or Octarine Garden Trowel. Use the Trowel to plant seeds in the tilled ground. Below are the seeds in Core Keeper you can use in soil tilled by a Trowel:
  • Root Seed
  • Heart Berry Seed
  • Glow Tulip Seed
  • Bomb Pepper Seed
  • Grumpkin Seed
  • Grub Kapok Seed
  • Carrock Seed
  • Bloat Oat Seed
  • Puffungi Seed
  • Coral Seed
  • Pewpaya Seed
  • Pinegrapple Seed
  • Gleam Wood Seed
  • Sunrice Seed
  • Lunacorn Seed
