Another year, another Gamescom done and dusted. As usual, the biggest week in gaming started with Opening Night Live. This two-hour show featured plenty of new gaming announcements with updates, new releases, and more. Of course, the rest of the week had even more news on what the exciting future of gaming holds. We've scoured all the latest info and compiled the biggest highlights so you can start updating your wishlist.

Gamescom 2026 Roundup: New Games, Updates, Tech, & More

Minecraft Dungeons II — New Details

The long-awaited sequel to the blocky, dungeon-crawling spinoff is almost here! Minecraft Dungeons II will launch on September 29 and feature plenty of improvements over the original. An all-new minimap for tracking points of interest, a guiding line for when you get lost, a fast travel system, and an emphasis on a more open and interconnected overworld are all only the tip of the pickaxe.

DayZ Badlands — Release Date

After months of waiting, zombie survival enthusiasts finally got a release date for the latest DayZ expansion. DayZ: Badlands will be arriving on all available platforms on October 15. When it launches, new areas, weapons, and more will be added.

Metro 2039 — Gameplay Trailer

Each year, Gamescom gives out awards to certain games in attendance. One award category that returns each Gamescom is for Best Visuals. This year's winner was Metro 2039, and it's easy to see why, thanks to its new gameplay trailer. While the game doesn't have a fixed release date yet, it is scheduled to release in February 2027.

Dune: Awakening Filmic Archive DLC & Console Release Date

The latest expansion of Dune: Awakening is releasing on September 22. Named the Filmic Archive, this DLC is part of the game's season pass and will conclude the first chapter of the game's narrative. It will bring plenty of new content for players to enjoy, and the game itself will become available on both Xbox and PlayStation the same day.

Rainbow Six Tactics — Reveal Trailer

In the past, Rainbow Six games have been third or first-person shooters that emphasize tactical decision-making and lightning-fast reflexes. Now, the series is leaning even further into strategy with its very own tactics spinoff. Thanks to its reveal trailer, we have a good idea of how it will look in action, but we'll have to wait until sometime in 2027 to play it ourselves.

Ananta — Extended Look

This enormous open-world adventure from NetEase Games and developer Naked Rain is set to steal players' time when it launches January 15, 2027. It will be available on PlayStation, PC, iOS, and Android as a free-to-play title. It promises plenty of characters, vehicles, and massive exploration, and an action-packed story.

Nodusfall — Reveal

Created by the well-known developer HoYoverse, Nodusfall is a very different game for the studio. First, it has a much grittier dark-fantasy aesthetic. Second, while it will be free-to-play, it won't be a gacha game. This is different from the studio's biggest titles, such as Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero. However, since we don't have a release date, we'll have to stay tuned to learn more.

Valheim: Deep North — Animated Trailer

After more than five years in Early Access, Valheim: Deep North will finally release as 1.0. This update promises to bring numerous new features, bug fixes, quality-of-life improvements, and more. At Gamescom, the studio released an animated trailer to get players excited for the September 9 release.

Path of Exile 2 — 1.0 Release Date

While it has already gathered thousands of fans during its time in Early Access, Path of Exile II will finally hit 1.0 later this year. On December 11, the game will not only add new areas, new bosses, new gear, and a host of quality-of-life improvements, but it will also become free-to-play!

Once Human: Isles

Now that it's available on Xbox and PlayStation, Once Human is continuing to add new content for players across all platforms. The upcoming Isles of Abyss expansion will add a whole new way of traversing the world. This oceanic-themed update will arrive sometime in October 2026.

Exodus — Release Date Announcement

Set in the same universe as the novels, Exodus: The Archimedes Engine and Exodus: The Helium Sea has now revealed its targeted April 7, 2027 release date. This title is being developed by Archetype Entertainment, founded by several veteran BioWare developers. That DNA is easy to see in the game's release date trailer, where the Mass Effect influences are worn on its sleeve. This trailer also gives us a more in-depth look at the in-game octopus companion named Salt.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros Announced

Despite its enormous success as a book and television series, Game of Thrones has seen very little in the world of gaming. PlaySide Studios aims to fix that with its all-new RTS Game of Thrones: War for Westeros. This title was announced during Opening Night Live, and it is targeting an early 2027 release.

Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake — Reveal

One of the most celebrated titles in Ubisoft's history, Heroes of Might and Magic III is getting a remake to be released in 2027. This remake will include the original base game, both Armageddon's Blade and The Shadow of Death expansions, and all original factions. It will also include an entirely new prologue. Of course, it will also include some modernization tweaks, such as a free-rotating camera, a city-planning tool for managing upgrades, eight-person multiplayer, and more.

Silent Hill: Townfall — Cast Reveal Trailer

Konami has stated that they want to turn Silent Hill into an annual franchise. With the Silent Hill 2 remake in 2024, Silent Hill f in 2025, and now Silent Hill: Townfall scheduled for September 24, 2026, it seems that they're on track! Thanks to Opening Night Live, we got a reveal of the cast involved in Silent Hill: Townfall, and an eerie look at a massive creature lurking in the game's fog.

Final Fantasy VII: Revelation

One of the closing announcements from Gamescom Opening Night Live, Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, is aiming to be the grand conclusion to the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. The previous two games in this trilogy were both timed PlayStation exclusives, even though they're now available across all platforms. When Revelation launches in early 2027, it will be available simultaneously across Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, & PC.

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons Reveal

Announced in late 2025, we had our first look at the gameplay for Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons. Set within the famous tabletop universe, this was one segment of Opening Night Live that had fans buzzing online. Despite the Dungeons & Dragons in the title, the studio behind this game hopes to offer a different gameplay experience from most past D&D adaptations. This is another title targeting a 2027 release.

The Witcher 3 Remastered & Songs of the Past DLC

Arguably the biggest announcement from Opening Night Live, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a full remaster and all-new DLC. The remaster will feature an enormous list of improvements and changes to nearly every piece of the 2015 smash hit. For those who already own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, this remaster will be a completely free upgrade when it arrives on September 29. Then, in early 2027, the new DLC titled Songs of the Past will take famous witcher Geralt of Rivia on a new and eerie adventure.

Gears of War: E-Day & NVIDIA

&t=108s Microsoft had plenty of its own news, including three days of livestreams. Thanks to NVIDIA, we got a detailed look at the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day, which showcased impressive visual fidelity enabled by DLSS 4.5 and RTX Mega Geometry. We also got our most detailed look at the game's campaign thanks to a new trailer. Those in attendance at Gamescom also had the chance to go hands-on with the first public demo for the game's campaign. The release date for Gears of War: E-Day is October 6.

Xbox Disc to Digital Tech

In addition to showing off Gears of War: E-Day, Microsoft announced a new initiative to grant players digital licenses to their physical games. Although not yet released to the public, this will allow users to take their physical games and enjoy the benefits of a digital copy. After inserting the disc an initial time, it will no longer need to be in the console to launch the game. Players can also use the Play Anywhere feature to take their save file from the console to the cloud or their PC without needing to use the disc at all.
