How to Find the Mistlands in Valheim

Generally, the Mistlands in Valheim 1.0 sit between the Plains and Ashlands biomes, but this can still depend on the generated world seed. Nonetheless, it’s advisable for players to only venture into this region after defeating Yagluth, the boss of the Plains biome, and obtaining Plains-tier gear. Unlike the Plains, Meadows, and the Black Forest, the Mistlands are immediately recognizable. True to its name, a thick, magical fog blankets the landscape, reducing visibility to only a few meters. One wrong move can send you into a spiral of familiar-looking landscapes, making it easy to lose your way. Massive stone pillars also rise from the terrain, creating a maze-like environment filled with steep cliffs, hidden valleys, and dangerous, sudden drop-offs. As with entering any new biome in Valheim, proper preparation is essential before exploring the Mistlands safely. Start by securing a Wisplight as soon as possible, as the floating, glowing orb removes additional mist in a radius from your character, allowing you to see more of the surroundings than normal. Aside from the Wisplight, another useful item for staying in the Mistlands is the Grappling Hook. Introduced in Version 1.0, this tool reduces the risks of accidental falls in the Mistlands, promoting safe travels across vertical terrain.

Visibility is at an all-time low while exploring the Mistlands in Valheim. Still, some locations are worth paying attention to, helping you mark your path and avoid getting lost.

Infested Mines

Arguably, the Infested Mines are the most important dungeons in the Mistlands. Here, you’ll find hostile creatures like Seekers and Ticks. Aside from the creepy crawlies, these areas also house valuable resources, particularly the Black Cores used to construct advanced Mistlands crafting stations. It’s also in these mines that you’ll have a higher chance of obtaining a Grappling Hook than in other locations in the Mistlands, making them a key early destination.

Dvergr Outposts

Giant insects aren’t the only creatures calling the Mistlands their home, as Dvergrs have also taken up residence in the area. This foggy haven now holds various tall Dvergr stone towers that occasionally rise above the mist. While typically neutral, the Dvergr invite weary adventurers into their outposts as long as you don’t show hostility toward them. Their tall designs also make them useful landmarks during exploration.

Ancient Ruins

Scattered throughout the Mistlands are remnants of an ancient civilization. While some ruins contain useful resources and treasure, others provide clues about the history of the Mistlands that tie to the Dvergr.

Giant Skull Remains

Like the Dvergr Outposts, the remains of giants can become important landmarks when exploring the labyrinthine layout of the Mistlands. However, these structures can also be farmed for Soft Tissue, an important material used throughout the Mistlands progression.

Mistlands are rich in fog and valuable resources. Below are the available items you’ll find in the Mistlands biome, with some of them unique to this region.

Black Marble

Black Marble is, arguably, the signature material of the Mistlands. Harvested from ruins, towers, and ancient structures, it lets players build some of the most impressive and durable buildings in Valheim. These sources also make it a material closely tied to the region’s landmarks, and many late-game bases use Black Marble for its strength and visual appeal.

Soft Tissue

As mentioned earlier, Soft Tissue can primarily be found in the giant skull remains. This rare resource plays a major role in crafting spells and advanced Mistland technologies. Since supplies are limited, it’s advisable for players to collect as much as possible whenever they encounter these structures, so progression remains smooth.

Sap

Collected from Yggdrasil Roots using Sap Extractors, this material is the foundational component for various crafting recipes, both basic and advanced. A Sap collection network should be one of the most important long-term goals while staying in Valheim.

Black Core

Found in Infested Mines, the Black Core is a rare material used to unlock and craft the Black Forge and Galdr Table. It’s also an important ingredient for crafting Mistlands-tier armor and weapons, making it a crucial progression item.

Hook

Magecaps

Another valuable mushroom species unique to the Mistlands is the Magecap. Players pursuing magic-focused builds should gather Magecaps frequently, as it’s essential for crafting Eitr-generating consumables and supporting that progression path.

Yggdrasil Wood
