As one of the smallest towns in Project Zomboid, Echo Creek might not seem ideal to someone hoping to survive the zombie apocalypse. However, its small size might actually be more of a benefit than you'd think. In this guide, we'll tell you about the best base locations, points of interest, survival tips, and more to turn your stay in Echo Creek into a well-fortified apocalyptic vacation.

Project Zomboid (Build 42) Echo Creek: An Overview

Added in update 42, the quaint little town of Echo Creek sits to the east of Ekron and north of Irvington. On nearly every side of the town are farmlands, forests, and plenty of roads leading to the rest of Knox Country. Unlike the larger towns in Project Zomboid, Echo Creek doesn't have rows upon rows of commercial districts or densely built-up areas. Instead, it has some small residential zones and a few handy business centers. This makes Echo Creek a perfect choice for those who want an easier, more methodical approach to their survival. With fewer buildings, you'll have fewer areas to loot, true. However, Echo Creek has areas that provide all the basic necessities for survival. With fewer areas to check for loot, your excursions for supplies can be quicker, and the undead have fewer areas to hide and take you by surprise.

How to Get to Echo Creek in Project Zomboid

The easiest way to reach Echo Creek is to select it as your starting point before starting a new game. You'll have to play through the Custom Sandbox mode to do this. If you started elsewhere in Knox County and are trying to reach Echo Creek, it's best to use a vehicle. Heading from one key location to another on foot is often a fatal error survivors make. This is even more true for Echo Creek, since it is considerably farther from other towns. If you can find the major road, Kentucky 60, you can eventually reach Echo Creek by heading northwest. The town's coordinates are 3600, 10925. Since it's out in the middle of nowhere, you'll want to ensure your car is ready for the trip. Load up on gas, extra gas, some food, and supplies, ready to start a base in your new town if you feel like sticking around.

How to Survive in Echo Creek in Project Zomboid

While you might feel nice and cozy in the rural surroundings of Echo Creek, remember that it's still the end of the world. Zombies can be anywhere, and you'll need loads of supplies to keep yourself alive. As with any Project Zomboid map, do your best to keep your noise levels low and stay on the lookout for supplies. Of course, we have some Echo Creek-specific tips to help you out as well.

Loot, Loot, & More Loot.

As a rural area, you'll have access to a whole lot of farmland when you're in Echo Creek. This means you can find vegetable gardens, fresh eggs, seeds, gardening tools, trowels, fertilizer, livestock, and more farm-specific gear. You can even use some of the preexisting patches of plowed earth to start your own farming efforts. However, that's just the tip of the looting iceberg. When you head toward the main buildings and stores in Echo Creek, you'll find plenty of snacks, gasoline, guns, ammo, and camping gear. As is always the case with Project Zomboid, leave no stone unturned. Loot everywhere you can, and organize your hauls carefully. While Echo Creek will have an abundance of materials and resources, you should prioritize essentials. If you build a base that's near the town, you can more reliably obtain everything that isn't nailed down.

Manage Noise & Plan Ahead

The smaller scale of Echo Creek makes it tempting to drive everywhere you want to go. After all, you could pop over to the gas station, grab a few things, and zip back to your base in a flash. However, vehicles are an easy way to get a zombie horde's attention. You'll want to park just outside of town, and use your car only for emergencies or long-distance trips. Additionally, power will eventually go out as the days progress. To make sure you're still alive when this happens, you'll want to stock up on necessities. If you're in search of a power generator, you can always find one at the outdoor festival area. This is located west of the town's main street, connected to a burger booth. That generator will go a long way to helping your long-term survival.

Project Zomboid Echo Creek Points of Interest (POIs)

As one of the smallest places in Project Zomboid, there aren't too many points of interest to discover and loot in Echo Creek. As we've pointed out above, there is still a nice handful of spots to pilfer through with a variety of potential resources. With everything being so close together in Echo Creek, there aren't too many spots that won't make a good base. However, we have some favorites listed below.

Gas 2 Go

Without a doubt, this is the best place to set up a base in Echo Creek. It has more than one floor, a gas pump for infinite fuel, easy access to nearby stores and resources, and plenty of storage space. With it being near the center of the town, it's also a great location for defending yourself from zombie hordes. Of course, its inside storage is great for loot and resources. However, it also has a spacious two-car garage where you can keep your vehicles nice and safe. Finally, it's also near a river. If you feel like your crops aren't coming in as quickly as you like or your looting isn't turning up anything useful, you can always fish your way to a full belly.

Guns Unlimited

If you want weapons, this store has them all, as the name implies. Plenty of guns, ammo, and magazines are just waiting for you to find them in Guns Unlimited. Just remember that shooting a zombie can make noise and even more zombies appear. When you head into the store, you'll find plenty in the main shopping area. However, if you head to the back and look through the Shooting Range, you can often find more specialized gear. While all of this loot sounds nice and tempting, it is appropriately guarded. In fact, Guns Unlimited is a bit like Echo Creek's very own dungeon. Plenty of undead lurk outside and sometimes inside the building. If you want those valuable boomsticks, you'll have to either stealth past the undead or take them out without drawing too much attention.

Ovo Farms

Whether you just want a few handy supplies or you think you can start building your own farm, Ovo Farms has nearly everything you need. It's got the gear for raising livestock and growing food. In fact, even if you build your main base elsewhere, investing some time into getting Ovo Farms up and running could be time well spent. When you head to Ovo Farms, you'll find it has plenty of built-in security precautions. There's a large chain-link fence that encircles the property, and zombies have a hard time with that unless they're in a horde. The best part of the location might just be its large storage options. It has warehouses, storage buildings, and a cellar in the main house for keeping perishables secure in a freezer. Farm here, store your food here, and living off the farm is a great survival strategy.

Wildlife Rehabilitation Center

This spot doesn't fall within the city limits of Echo Creek but sits on the edge. This does mean you'll have to travel more if you're heading into town, true. However, it's another area, like Ovo Farms, that has ample land for raising animals. Technically, while Ovo Farms may be best suited for farming, the Rehabilitation Center is best suited for rearing livestock. It comes with an assortment of animal pens, fenced-in areas, and easy access to ponds. All of this can keep your livestock going even when you need to take time away to do some more looting. You can also turn the area into a highly defensible position with a few adjustments. Its slightly more isolated location might mean it's out of your way, but that also means you can see any zombie shambling your way. Finally, you may also come across medical supplies while looting the area.
